Guest guest
Hi all, it's Liz with all the questions again! My family will offically be making the change to a vegetarian diet in mid-February (we have a lot of meat in the freezer I hate to waste, we're all lifelong carivores and I still get a passionate craving for red meat every other day or so, and such...) . DH and I haven't told our families yet about these changes, mostly beacuse we know that they will be resistant to our decision and tell us we're wrong. (We both have very controlling mothers and siblings who like to make us the brunt of their jokes!) Sooooo... what I'm looking for is a preview of the questions I'll be asked and the answers to give, as well as any and all facts to back up this choice. I'm 5 1/2 months pregnant now, will nurse my baby, my DS is 4 years old, my DD is 19 months old. There is a history of diabetes, heart problems, cancers, obesity, and a plethora of other problems in both our families, which is the main reason for our switch. I know some friends I have spoken to have already expressed some doubt as to weather or not I should be making this change while pregnant, and I know my MIL especially will be against " forcing " this on the kids. My mom is sure to think it's just a phase and it will all be over in a few months. This isn't an easy choice for us but a lot of thoughts and prayers went into it and we feel that this is the right choice for our family. I would greatly appreciate anything I can get! Thank you all soooo much! Liz _______________ Get in the mood for Valentine's Day. Guest guest
First, Congratulations on the baby and your decision to choose a (IMO) healthier eating style. As to explanations to family/friends you already answered that when you said " I'm 5 1/2 months pregnant now, will nurse my baby, my DS is 4 years old, my DD is 19 months old. There is a history of diabetes, heart problems, cancers, obesity, and a plethora of other problems in both our families, which is the main reason for our switch. " Keep re[eating that. Secondly, they (friends and family) are going to try your resolve in every way. If you are invited for dinner, everything, even dessert and maybe even the iced tea, is going to have flesh in it. " It's GOOD for you. " Bullpoo. Maybe back in the olden times before force fed imprisoned animals full of chemicals and hormones, when people worked hard, physically, 7 days a week, it might have been good, but now? Oh lord girl, now that stuff is pure poison. Third: Go to this site. Email them and they will send you print copies of The Vegetarian Starter kit and other info on vegetarianism during pregnancy, etc. http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/ That is a great site, and very helpful . It is the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. " To order the Vegetarian Starter Kit as a printed booklet, please call 202-686-2210, ext. 306, or e-mail literature. Check out the files here, lots of super recipes. Unless your family has an adventuresome palate you might want to start with dishes they are used to, just de-fleshed. Pasta, rice dishes, Tex-Mex, oriental..all of them. Though it is a little outdated (one need not be strict about combining foods to get usable protein), Diet For A Small Planet is an incredible read that shows things like the impact of " growing " beef, etc for food, makes on the planet. It also goes over the chemicals pumped into them. There are also wonderful recipes that I still make regularly. I am very proud of you and your family for this choice. You can do it and we will help. Might not be able to actually come to your kitchen but we can come to your computer! Most excellent! *Hugs* Jeanne in GA Never Miss an Email Stay connected with Mail on your mobile. Get started!
