Guest guest
According to http://www.slashfood.com/2006/01/30/ingredient-spotlight-avocados/ SuperBowl Sunday is the biggest day of the year for avocados. However, snopes says nopes. http://www.snopes.com/sports/football/superbowl.asp Of course, this second link is from 2005, so it is possible they are both right, for the time in which they were printed. By the way, the first link notes that 95% of the US avocado crop is grown in California. And, if you haven't heard, they've just been hit with a freeze that may well skyrocket the price of avocados as well as oranges, etc.. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog
Guest guest
Celery is almost impossible to find and it's $2.00 a sorry looking small bunch. I saw oranges for 39 cents a lb this afternoon and I have the best bag of avocados for 50 cents each. These avocados were so creamy and delish but I see they are imported from Chile. High prices haven't hit us yet. Guest guest
I eat avocoda any time I can get ahold of it. I spread it on bread, or eat it out of the shell with a spoon if I don't have something to put it on. It has lots of good for us fats and help lower bad cholesterol and raise good. Guest guest
Yummm I just bought some at Sam's Club yesterday. Their are usually very tasty and good. I can't wait to cut one open tomorrow. Prices about $3/5 in a bag. Judy - Katie M Monday, January 29, 2007 9:21 PM Re: the great avocado debate I eat avocoda any time I can get ahold of it. Guest guest
Well, whichever is right, the biggest day of the year for avocados in this house is DH's b-day. He loves them, so I always try to make something special with them in it. (Usually ends up being taco salads or something else as painfully obvious.) Though Super Bowl Sunday comes in a close second! The freeze was very bad this year and though the price for eating oranges will jump incredibly, don't expect much change in the price of orange juice (eating oranges come from Cali, juice oranges from Fla). A lot of the produce works that way, so while whole avocados may become more pricey, avocado dips and guacamole may not. Makes one think... peace and blessings, ben
