Re: Options at Fast Food Places?

Burger King veggie burger in a pinch.

Taco Bell bean burrito

Subway has sandwiches you can eat.

Jack in the Box in my aera will make a cheese, lettuce

and tomato sandwich on a bun and charge 35 to 50 cents

for it.

McDonalds have small dinner salads. Those are the only thing there I can eat.

Little bit of iceburg letuce for $1.50. When I am forced to go there I usually

watch my grandkids eat their fried and burgers then go home or to subway to get

a vegi sandwich. MdDonalds is a total waste of time for a vegetarian.

I'm a new veggie (only about three weeks), and since we have 9yo, we do

have to stop at fast food places sometimes.

Don't forget the markets now usually have a deli or a

salad bar.

Whole Foods in my area has a take out.

Trader Joe's usually has good already prepared salad,

vegetarian sandwiches and vegetarian sushi rolls.

This may sound odd. If I have to grab something out I

usually run into the hospital cafeteria, they have a

great grilled veggie burger that is grilled on a

second grill used for non-meat items and they charge

$1.50 and add a pickle and coleslaw. If you search it

out there are quite a few options awailable out there.

Find these places and keep a note in the car for your

emergency stops.

I only " do " Wendy's occasionally for lunch - a baked potato with sour cream &

chives and tossed salad. I believe McDonald's offers salads, etc. I don't get

fries when I'm out because most of those places, though they use vegetable oil,

cook everything in the same fat.

A & W does also, now I think about it - but they cook them on the same grill as

the regular burgers so I don't go there. And they're some sort of mass frozen

veggie burger so who knows what's in them.

I agree--grocery stores, delicatessens, and real sit-down restaurants

are how I survive when I am away from home and cannot get real food.

I don't even consider fast food to be an option. Several years ago, I

was on an Amtrak Bus. It stopped at a fast food outfit, so my

response was to go next door to the minimart. to buy some lowfat

yoghurt, a can of V-8 juice along with a banana. Of course, when I

got back on the bus, I had to smell that horrible fast food smell, but

we are all humans living in this world and we are all different.

Even a minimart is better than fast food. At home, I would never set

food in a minimart.

AFAIK:

McDonald's was sued for the animal products and allergens

(whey and gluten) in their fries. Thought it had been remedied,

but perhaps their history makes them both untrustworthy and

unworthy in general. :)

I believe Burger King uses Boca Burgers (not vegan) for their

veggie burgers. I tried them when they first came out and was

soon in the bathroom with Montezuma's Revenge. Guess my body

wasn't used to the high sodium and possibly cross-contamination.

One solution for veggie burgers being cooked on a meat grill

would be to ask for them to microwave them, if they don't already.

Wendy's has a sizeable garden salad with packets of pecans

to sprinkle over the top. The baked potato was mentioned

previously too. Good idea. Wonder if they are premade or

if you can ask for them w/o cheese (this vegan wants to know).

I have a knife in my car so I will also grab a roll

from the bread bulk bin, a tomato that I skin since I

can't wash it, mini jar or horseradish, a banana and

head back on the run. Opps! and I also toss a handful

of pistachios in a produce bag too since those are

usually sold bulk.

Burger King has a veggie burger that's pretty good. AT McDonald's I order one of

the supreme chicken sandwiches without the meat and add ranch sauce and lots of

veggies. It comes on a wheat bun and it's quite tasty. Taco Bell will substitute

beans for meat in just about anything and there are always Subway veggie

sandwiches.

McDonalds has a salad. Burger King has a pretty good veggie burger. Chili's

has a black bean burger that you can have prepared like any other burger on

the menu. Dennys has Boca Burger. Taco Bell has (vegetarian) bean burritos.

(other's have bean burritos, but beans are made with some sort of animal

flavorings :-(. Wendy's has a salad bar with a baked potato. CiCi's pizza

has pasta and a salad bar. Hope this helps a little.

The 7 Layer Burrito @ Taco Bell is also good. It has guacamole, rice, beans,

lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream. It has no meat. Several have

mentioned Subway and Quiznos. McAlesters has vegetarian chili and a

vegetarian sandwich.

Before I started watching my sodium, Chili's black bean burger

was one of my favorites! Pretty neat that you can order it up

using any of the style options. I used to like their fries too,

though I'm not sure they're actually veggie safe.

I substitute the fries @ Chilis (and Denny's) for a salad. I believe they

charge an extra $ at Chili's for the substitution. Usually I can only finish

half the burger, so take it home for a snack later.

vegetarian times recently reported that the sour cream used at taco bell

contains gelatin. i guess you can get the burrito without it, making it six

layers of less-fatty goodness.

I think they are the Morningstar Farm brand of Chicken Patty made into a

rectaular for Subways. And the Spicy Black Bean Burger is also Morningstar

Farms. I may be thinking of Blimpies though.

We just went to Subways today and they said that they were getting in the Veggie

Max Patties tomorrow at that location. They were a brand new store, so they

hadn't arrived yet.

By the way, you have to ask for it at Subways, because the ones that I have been

to, didn't advertise that they even carried them, but they had them, when you

asked about them.

I don't go to Burger King or Mc D's at all. Taco bell has a couple

of things that are okay in an emergency. The tostado is pretty good

and my son loves the 7 layer burrito, which someone already

Hi Maggie,

I agree, don't think that Burger King, McDonald's or Wendys have

anything worth eating. Quizno's has a great veggie sub, had one last

night. Lots of mushrooms, olives, guacamole and a little cheese that

could be left off if you want it vegan. At Taco Bell about I would

order is bean burrito with no cheese. Don't know where you live, but

here in Puerto Rico we have Taco Maker too, which is better than Taco

Bell. Have delicious bean burritos and Nacho Deluxe, with nacho

chips, olives, refried beans and tomato (cheese optional). We also

have El Meson, which has veggie sandwiches and a great stuffed veggie

baked potato (cheese optional).

If you eat cheese, than any pizza place is good, just have them pile

on the mushrooms, onions, olives, etc.

Sounds yummy, but somehow I doubt their bread is vegan.
