Guest guest
Welcome Marcia! So sorry you're going thru a similar thing as Jeanne. The doctors have been treating me for over six months for bronchitis I've had more steroid shots and prednisone pills than the pharmacy could keep up with lol and 2 weeks ago, actually almost 3, I've had the 'flu' even though I got the shot. Lab work came back, and even though I take iron supplements and protein shakes, my iron levels were as low as they could get, so now I get to begin a regime of iron injections. I thought it was funny about the gas from the shakes, I thought it only happened to me.. Awful to chase yourself out of the room isn't it? I love tofu in Chinese foods but I'm going to have to learn how to cook it but I'm willing to experiment As for Dennis, he loves spicy foods, especially Mexican and Cajun, but basically he's a meat and potatoes man. He will eat beans as in chili or beans with rice, like I said, I puree them or sneak them under cheese, etc. I'm willing to do anything to get veggies into that man Any help you can offer will be very welcome. How did you do with your gastric? I'm 4 years out at the 30th of this month. Being so sick, 14 surgeries in 3 years has kept me from losing as much as I wanted and the past year I've gained 30 pounds, which is why I'm really looking into a more vegetarian lifestyle. I don't think I could give up eggs and cheese though Thanks again and I hope you get to feeling better yourself. I also had a gastric bypass and found (-painfully) that meat, chicken, fish, etc were rental food so I continued with my lacto-ovo vegetarian way. Getting the husband person to eat other than green beans and corn. Hmm.. what does he like, generally? Mexican, Oriental, Euro, USA standard cooking? I know the group files have a wealth of recipes you could try that he'd actually like. On the tofu subject. It took several recipes from the group to get me to actually eat it but my husband person Does Not Like It. Period. Protein and gastric bypass patients. IMO and I can back it up with many sources but am too lazy right now, if you cannot get adequate protein in by your diet, you need to supplement with protein shakes. There are soy based ones (which my stomach turns into enough gas to run half the cars in the world) and whey based ones. E-mail me offline if you want more info. Right now my protein levels (and iron levels, and hemaglobin) are in the toilet because I've been ill. You Do NOT want to let your body get to the point where you are protein deficient, need iron infusions and blood transfusions. Trust me. Please. Okies, nagging over. Welcome to the group!
