Guest guest
Being that i am short on cash this month im gonna go buy some dried beans as i can get far more then the canned stuff. Now my question is, what is the best way to prepare dried beans. Do you need to soak lentles the same way? I have a few recipies that i know of with beans, rice and other vegstables but I just want to know the best way to prepare these foods? Guest guest
Rather than soaking the beans overnight, I take the beans, wash them and sort them, cover with plenty of water, bring them to a full boil, boil 5 minutes, and shut them off for one hour. Then I can go ahead and pressure cook them or cook them in the crock pot or on the stove. Guest guest
You don't have to presoak Lentils or Split Peas. Like someone else mentioned, I wash and rinse the other beans and then bring to a boil for 15 minutes, then turn off the burner, leaving the lid on. Leave on the hot burner and let soak like that for 1 hr. Then rinse and put in fresh water, add 1 T. oil (to keep the skin on the beans, but NO SALT, until they are tender) and bring back to a boil. I prefer to then cook in my pressure cooker about 40-50 minutes. Chick Peas/Garbanzo's will take a bit longer and Navy beans will take a little less time. Once they are tender, season and add any other veggies that you may want and return to boil until those are tender. That usually only takes 5 minutes or so. I think my Lima Bean Soup is in the files. I make it with dry Lima's. It is good. Enjoy, Judy - catfuzz_caliby Wednesday, January 10, 2007 8:59 AM prepairing dried beans and lentles. Guest guest
It is, and there isn't any way the water can turn sour in the summer either. Guest guest
I just got a new fangled pressure cooker for Christmas (I was good and my other pressure cooker was ancient) and I cooked beans in it last night and they are awesome. If you have one, I'd do it that way. Getting ready to cook more. Debbie Check out the all-new Mail beta - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster.
