Guest guest
Huge pecan pie fan here, but it's such a decadence, I haven't had any in forever. This looks like it might have a little less sugar, less fat, and the healthfulness of apples is a bonus. Anyone know of any commercial vegan caramels or am I going to have to make my own? Guest guest
Erin, I haven't made pecan pie in awhile but I think it carmelizes by itself. You can probably use oil or butter and honey and/or malted barley syrup. It should come out like caramel when baking. Guest guest
True, true. But, this one is not exactly traditional. It has quite a lot of apples, fewer pecans, and no sugar or syrup aside from what's in the caramels. I thought that may equate to less sugar overall, but perhaps not? Certainly, the caramels could be replaced with the more common syrups of standard pecan pie. I have ideas too for making pecan pie more healthy. If I experiment, I will let y'all know how it turns out.
