Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am a pretty shy person, and when it comes to meeting new people especially, I feel like " a shy lil turtle " . I do enjoy though, all the questions about veganism from people and find it liberating talking openly and honestly to people about it. I used to be annoyed and shocked when I was introduced to new people as " so and so meet Nick, he is vegan, he doesn't eat any animal products. " and then the look on some of those faces was enough to make you wanna run. It was shock, horror, and even confusion and disgust. But, then the questions come. What do you eat? How do you get protein? Are you healthy? Do you get all the vitamins you need? Dont you miss chicken? lol my favorite. These and many more, as I am sure you all have heard, come like a barrage. Most of the question are of the innocent type, while some do come in the form of an attack. I have learned that no matter the origin of the question it truelly is fear and curiousity of something new and unknown that prompts these questions. So I have come to consider myself a type of counselor, in that by explaining my motives for living a vegan life I can truelly help another to know how wonderful it is to know, live, and love being a vegan. I do not know the number of people that have skipped a meat based meal, or changed their lifestyles completely after one of our question and answer " sessions " , but I do know that the person that was most arguable, and seemed to him to have a pretty good case FOR eating meat, had a question behind his eyes by the time we were done. A question that he could ponder and act upon in the future. Hope, is all I crave. With that twinkle of hope in his unlightened eyes, I can know that a seed was planted, and with only a litte guidance and nourishment can grow into a wonderful thing. Lets not turn away the seemingly hopeless, the adamant hunters and meat eaters. Hope is in each of us, everyone a child of this earth, and it only takes a twinkle. May peace come to all however great or small Nick
