Guest guest
Thanks for saying that about nutritionally bereft Yves veggie food (message excerpt copied in below). I've battled with this business of not liking fake me*t - I really really dislike it, although I do eat tofu, tempeh, tvp ;=) But I just can't see that most preflavoured, preformed vegetarian 'meats' like bakon or sossidge or other such me*t substitutes have anything to add to our lives except an illusion that we are leading healthier ones for a. omitting me*t and then b. substituting something with the name 'un-salami' or whatever. The first is true imnsho, but for the second I'd have to say that more is definitely less ;=) I don't think that to be a vegetarian/vegan one should simply substitute the 'fakes' for the 'real thing'. Don't get me wrong. It's a time-honored tradition, especially in the cultures that perfected various wonderful vegetarian cuisines (which I have been trying to reproduce in my own kitchen for several decades now). But the concept doesn't translate too well to western eating habits, as shown by the Yves 'Lunchable' mentioned. Not only is the Yves meal you describe nutritionally bereft, but it is guaranteed to wreck any possible appreciation for good food. And how's *that* for a rant at seven o'clock on a beautiful Saturday morning. And now back to marinating the tofu for lunch *lol* Best, Pat in Montreal ;=) >But what really turned me from being an Yves fan is >>the fact that Yves now markets a vegetarian version >>of the devil's own packaged food, the Lunchable. >Yves's Good Lunch features fake bologna, string >cheese, white-flour crackers, cookies, and a box of apple juice. Great! Now vegetarian kids can eat as nutritionally bereft a lunch as their carnivorous counterparts. ===== psybermus Lists: townhounds/ / htto://vegetarianslimming/ Homepage: http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---- Friends. I don't think that to be a vegetarian/vegan one should simply substitute the 'fakes' for the 'real thing'.
