Vegan children and meat-eating partner

Again I poke my nose in ;=) A thought about this

discussion - it has been on veganism and the

*meat-eating* partner re children (and problems in the

kitchen even before or without children). Quite right

too - it's a huge problem and the one I was focusing

on reading all this myself. But ---

BUT we all know there's more to veganism than not

eating animals, eggs and dairy, and I wonder about a

meat-consumer's response to mom looking for

non-leather shoes for the kids, wanting rugs without

wool in her home, cleaning materials and toiletries

without animal products and not tested on animals.

Vitamins for the kids without animal ingredients or

gelatine in the capsule part. All those things and

more that being a vegan includes but that the

meat-consumer might not have thought of as being a

problem because he has to focus on what he eats (and

most will eat 3 times a day) rather than on what he

uses or buys.

Can you see it? 'Look, darling, a lovely teddybear for

the new baby - and it's so cute. And it's *re-cycled*

too cuz it's made out of an old fur coat by that

clever woman at the craftshop.' (Been there, done

that.) Or how about: 'Surprise surprise! Doesn't

little Keaton look lovely in the new silk and wool

sweater my mom made.' Or 'I'm not wasting money on

those vegan vitamins when these are half the price and

probably twice as good.' Write your own script :=( And

we haven't even got to buying carpets yet.

Meat in the kitchen? Disgusting, I agree. But that's

only part of it.

best,

Pat in Montreal ;=)
