We are pleased to announce the recently formed group GMO Free Alameda County. GMOFAC is a citizens group working to pass legislation to stop genetically engineered crops from being grown and developed in Alameda County. Here's how you can help in our effort to keep GMOs out of Alameda County 1) Urge the County Board of Supervisors office to support a ban on GMOs. We have recently met with the Chiefs of Staff Chris Gray (Supervisor Scott Haggerty) Chief of Staff Shawn Wilson (Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker). Please contact BOTH Chris Gray and Shawn Wilson by letter, fax, phone and/or email - letters are the most effective - and urge them to place a measure banning the growth and development of GMO crops in Alameda County on the November, 2004 ballot. Chief of Staff Chris Gray Supervisor Haggerty's Office 1221 Oak Street, Suite 536 Oakland, CA 94612 (510) 272-6691 chris.gray Chief of Staff Shawn Wilson Supervisor Lai-Bitker's Office 1221 Oak Street, Suite 536 Oakland, CA 94612 (510) 272-6743 shawn.wilson Talking points in your correspondence should include some of the following points a) you are worried about the health effects of GMO crops in our county (allergies, asthma, inhalation of GM pollen, etc.) b) you are worried about the environmental impacts of GM crops in Alameda County c) are concerned about local non-GM farmers' economic future d) you heard about Mendocino County passing non-GMO legislation and you support the same type of legislation here 2) Volunteer We need energetic, enthusiastic people to help spread our campaign throughout Alameda County. We are looking for people from all areas of the county, but most especially from areas in the Southern and Eastern portions of the county (south and east of Oakland). Assistance is needed in all of the following areas flyer hanging, tabling, signature gathering, etc. People interested in being An Area Coordinator for southern and eastern portions of the county are especially encouraged to contact us. You can contact us via email at gmofreeac, by phone at 510-286-7542 or by USPS at 1164 Solano Avenue #193 Albany, CA 94706. We hope to hear from you soon, and thanks for your support!
