You mentioned that you veered away from veganism for awhile and then came back with the conclusion that it was the best diet in the world (I am just recalling what I remember).

I am curious...when you went back to meat did you feel good initially or did you feel unattractive effects immediately? How long did it take you to come back to the vegan diet? Did you notice any changes in mood? What exactly did you feel that didn't feel so good? Any details would be appreciated. And if you felt any positive effects of eating meat, please tell.

I would do the experiment myself, if not for my spiritual beliefs, because I think it would be interesting to see the effects of eating meat after many years of not doing so. I've read that some have experienced effects on their mental/emotional well-being...feeling more materialistic and even feeling the effects of the animal they are eating! I think it would be so interesting...but I can't do it.

I am just asking because my ex, who was a staunch vegan for a long time...started eating meat again and he said "he feels better". He was encouraging me to do it too...saying that I am going to age faster and wither away if I don't. By the way, I am told I look younger...at least for now. I wonder how he feels now...we are talking again but we haven't touched this subject.

Thanks!

The main and most objectionable effect of eating meat again would be that there would be more dead animals - not a good experiment!

Kristina, & Jo

First off I was just a Ovo lacto vegetarian at first I only became Vegan in the last 3 years.

I never fully embraced being a meat eater. Someone convinced me that organic meat was better so at first

the only meat I would eat was from animals I raised and let me tell you that took allot of doing. (never wanted to kill them)

then for a while I was eating in restaurants and would never order anything more than fish,

I think I figured out why so many people think fish is ok for vegetarians because in the bible Jesus feed the starving people bread and fish (just a theory lol)

I don't recall if I felt better eating meat again but when I stopped eating meat for the second time well.... I felt a whole lot better

and then giving up dairy well what a change things smell better my perception of things seemed to change and I think is still changing (only been 3 years a vegan) I believe the effects of meat in the body are long lasting. someone in this group commented on the fact that some people think we are like alcoholics and we crave meat well... in one way we might be but it is our bodies that suffer the damage from the consumption of meat. our minds understand the difference

I read somewhere that a possible cause of premature aging is over consumption of processed sugar and Meat.

the meat over doses the liver and the body with Iron, the sugar gives energy without substance in other words the energy burned has to come from existing tissue and it is not always Fat built up in the body.

you might be right too about the materialistic stuff.

and I agree with Jo

Question for Craig

I met someone who was vegetarian and went back to eating meat/savagery saying he became more aggressive. Without tring to sound too extreme, the effects of eating animals ultimately are disease, war misery etc.

Agreed, Jo. I have been a lifelong animal activist before I developed my spiritual beliefs and concern for the animal suffering has always been (and still is) the most important aspect of why I choose to eat vegan/vegetarian.

However, such an experiment could do the whole diet debate a service because may realize that there maybe negative effects on one's emotional body (from eating distressed animals). The whole debate is centered on mostly physical health rather than mental emotional health. I have read some that says people who do eat meat after being veg for a long time do experience changes in their mental and emotional being.

I'm sure they do. I think that when people eat meat they consume the remains of the hormones that pumped around the animal in it's last few hours - namely, sadness, discomfort and fear. It cannot be good for you.
