Hi All

Colin and I have had a week's holiday from work, and eaten out every day.

We went to Demuths (Veggie restaurant) in Bath, which we have visited once previously when the meal was good. This visit was not so good I am afraid. Colin had a curry which he said was delicious. I ordered sausages and mash in a tomato and onion rich sauce with crispy leeks and garlic baked tomato. Apparently they had run out of leeks, so I ended up with sausages, 1 tablespoon of mash, the sauce, half a cold tomato and one tablespoon of sprouted seeds. This meal cost £8.00! So I was not at all pleased. We had decaffeinated coffee to drink. Other comments I would make were that an apparently regular customer who came in after us was given his menu and served before us! The staff were pleasant but not particularly friendly or helpful.

We went to the Rainbow (Veggie) cafe in Glastonbury. We have eaten there four times before, and each time the food has been delicious and good value. It is a cafe so not particularly posh, but pleasant. We had dragon pie (lentil and root vegetable shepherds pie) with salad - very large and tasty. We also had chocolate cake amd decaffeinated coffee again. The value was excellent and the staff were helpful and friendly.

On Wednesday we visited Guildford for the Castle Grounds which are often lovely. We then went to the Guildford Institute (Veggie) cafe which is like a mixture between a co-op and Women's Institute cafe. Usually there are approximately three veggie meals and two vegan meals. Colin had Spinach and Nut Korma with green salad and I had a rissotto with tomato and beetroot salad. As usual we drank decaffeinated coffee (no soya, milk available - but they do have homemade lemonade). The meals are good value and the staff were helpful and friendly.

On Thursday our daughter visited and we went to the RHS gardens at Wisley which had more in flower than I was expecting. It was a lovely day despite the downpours of hailstones. There is nothing vegan in the cafe there, so we just had drinks. Afterwards we went to The Riverside Vegetaria in Kingston. For starters Laura had garlic mushrooms, Colin had potato balls and I had felafel and hummous. For main course Laura had Moroccan style leeks, Colin had Cashew, Potato and Spinach curry (a bit hot for Colin but nice anyway), and I had aubergine in gram flour fritters served with rice and salad. All were lovely. Laura drank Cobra beer, Colin and I had cappuccinos. For the three of us, including two bottles of beer for Laura the whole meal with tip cost £43, which I think is very good value.

On Friday we decided that as the Vegetaria is our favourite restaurant we would eat there again. We both had Masal Dosai (mild) with salad, and for desert Colin had rice pudding which is made with nuts etc added, and I had fruit crumble, made with dried apricots, dates, figs etc. Again we had capppucinos (decaffeinated and soya). From our very first visit we found the staff extremely good, the whole place really clean, with fresh flowers on the tables and in the loos, which are also exceptionally clean.

It was a lovely week off work and we have really spoiled ourselves and probably put on a few pounds too.

Jo
