Guest guest
Catherine -- I am a social worker and have been all my career. I deal with a VAST myriad of people....I go to people's homes and offer them services that the County offers. I have worked with lots and lots of teenagers as well as with women and whole family's. I have worked in this field in rural and urban areas. I have worked with people that are poor, rich, black, white and everything in between, and while I would never profess to know *everything*. I have worked with at this point EASILY thousands of people who I have been fortunate enough for them to share their lives with me and open their homes up for me to learn more about them. I can say with confidence....that the vast majority of people are not forced to have sex. They choose too. And the vast majority of women who get pregnant because they negligently didn't protect themselves. Not because of how you are implying....they were raped. We are living in a "sexually free society" -- where "sex in the city" and "friends" and most other TV...shows woman (and Men), how cool it is to have casual sex without committment/responsibility. How "empowering" it is. I have clients who tell me that they are trying to get pregnant because they want somebody to love them unconditionally and because they think it will keep their boyfriend around. Or they simply say because they like the attention and because it "feels good". While I work with all types of people....I have a special heart for teenagers....and they share with me ALL THE TIME......that they have sex because they want to....and because their friends are doing it....and because "it's fun".....all sorts of reasons but very rarely (and thank God for this!) is it because of Rape. I am not saying that there aren't real problems in this society with Rape and domineering men. (By the way there are domineering Woman too!) But I do think we need to help and address the real issues and help get problems at the core, than to go straight to the exceptions.....which would be that a woman got pregnant because she was forced to have sex AKA raped. I respect your opinion, and I don't think that my signature line is going to make major changes of opinion to people who are "pro-choice". I put it on some of my emails because like the rest of my signature lines, I want it to be thought provoking. I shared with you how my personal thought process had changed when I ended up taking an objective view of the issue. Somebody on this list said it very well (perfect in my opinion)...and forgive me for not giving credit since I don't know who it was at this moment. SOMEBODY HAS TO SPEAK FOR THE UNBORN. Whether it be animal or human. Murder is Murder. Have a Nice Day, Suzanne Abortion....the worst form of Child Abuse! People often say that humans have always eaten animals as if this is a justification for continuing the practice. According to this logic, we should not try to prevent people from murdering other people, since this has also been done since the earliest of times. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages. -- Thomas Jefferson
