Hi everyone,

I have heard of vegan marg before....this may be a stupid question

but what is in " normal " margarine(like Becel), besides loads of

chemicals, that makes it " unvegan " ?

What are some Vegan marg brandnames that i could look for,and/or

stores to look in? I am located in Canada...Calgary to be

specific...

Thanks

Jessica

Casein/caseinate or whey often appear in margarine from what I've noticed.

Both of those being a product from milk making the margarine not vegan if

they are present. I'm not sure what kind of products you have, as I'm not

located in Canada, but they have what should be labeled as Soy Margarine.

Some major brands that you might be able to find are Shedd's Willow Run,

Smart Balance, Soy Garden, or Spectrum Naturals. Those are the couple that I

know of. Some supermarkets might carry at least one of those, otherwise try

a health food store that has some refrigerated items.

Hi Jessica

I'm afraid I can't help with the brands of margarine in Canada, but over here in the UK some brands of non-vegan margarine contain casein, and some contain fish oil. It seems silly for the companies to use these items, when it is so easy to make vegan margarine.

I'm also in Canada - sw ontario - and I buy Earth Balance, available

from one healthfood shop and from one organic food shop. Others,

including soy maragarine, that I found available had either

casein/caseinate in it or whey - ie milk products ;=) Good luck!

Best,

Pat/Canada
