Guest guest
Hi there! About vegetarians and dogs: have you tried buying a small bag of vegetarian kibble? Try mixing that, a bit at a time (over about a week to ten days) to his meat food, until he is completely on the veggie food. Keep him on that for a while and then start adding the kinds of food you want him to eat - the lentils, etc. (I can understand you might not want to feed him commercial kibble, but they flavour/scent it up nicely so that the dog is attracted to it and it looks just like regular meaty kibble and is easily mixed in.) There are a number of excellent ones readily available. He's very young, so there should be no problem getting him to change his tastes! ;=) There are currently three lists that I know of for people feeding veggie diets to their pets - all of them pretty small with very helpful people on them. I'd be happy to chat to you offlist about this - it's a dicey topic, as you will know, even among vegetarians and vegans, and I have no wish to offend anyone or to be flamed myself yet again *lol* But *PLEASE* reconsider re-homing your pup - there are sooooo many dogs out there needing homes and all too often, as you know, the shelters are full (and yes, re-homed dogs often end up in shelters - if they are lucky - even though one might have thought one has found a satisfactory home for them!) and full shelters have to either euthanize the animals or turn away other animals, which then end up euthanized. You will find that he will soon find that he likes his new diet - I predict by the end of the week at the latest!!! ;=) As for his biting your arm (all-organic, best quality protein indeed), there are also excellent lists on for training, a couple in particular which are very much in line with positive training and all those things that we believe in ;=) I could put you onto those too. Meanwhile, remember he is still a puppy and puppies tend to nip until they are trained out of it. As you'll have figured out, this whole thing about dogs is something I have studied quite a bit and something I feel very strongly about. I do run my own list (address below) but it is not a training list as such nor is it about feeding veggie pets, but you are *most* welcome to have a look and to join ;=) Good luck - and do get in touch with me if you would like the urls for those lists!
