Guest guest
Rock Bottom... In have been consciously working toward living the raw food lifestyle for about 9 years now. I have had many detours over those years. It usually began with tasting one bit of cooked food after months without it, and thence began my downward spiral. This year I finally hit rock bottom. After going raw for a little over 4 months in August. I went back to a Standard American Diet (semi-vegetarian with some sea food). After being back on the SAD food plan I pack on all the weight that I lost in the previous months in no time. My new size 12's no longer fit and I had to trade them in yet again for a 16/18. Heartburn returned with a vengeance. I have been startled awake several nights vomiting after over eating the wrong foods before bed. The severe back pain also returned with my new found weight. In the past 9 years I hadn't taken medicine either. Not until the last 2 years when my back began to hurt beyond belief. It was a struggle to start my yoga practice, I was out of breath and sore. Then I started having what I can only term as episodes. What they are, I don't know. I would just freeze and not be able to perform any voluntary actions and my body would tremble involuntarily. This was scary. These things in combination comprised my rock bottom. On to Detox... Usually in the western world when the body starts to show some sign or symptom of dis-ease we go to the doctor or take some medicine. But I love what one of my favorite authors (Victoria Boutenko) has to say " our bodies are not deficient in Tylenol! " So I am taking the approach that this rash that has broken out all over my face is not something I need to control. I don't need to do anything about it. I don't need to do something for it. I am embracing my detox. Actually in all of the times that I have gone raw in the past I have never detoxed not once. I have actually lost count of how many times in the 9 years I have " gone raw " , but this is the first symptom of a detox. My face hurts a bit and it kind of burns, itches, and stings slightly throughout the day. It looks dry, as if it is about to peel. However I have decided not to " do " anything about it. I am going to let nature do what it does. I am not even going to wear make up to try to conceal it. It would probably irritate my face more come to think of it. I am embracing my cleanse, my detox, my healing and wondering what else I can do to encourage the process. It has really been on my mind to get a colonic and I think that is my next step. So for all of you lovelies who are entering the raw food lifestyle and begin to experience detox symptoms, I urge you. Don't fret. Let it be and resist the urges to run to the doctor to " take something for it " . Your body is infinitely wise and will do all that it can to kill pathogens, and rid itself of harmful chemicals and bacteria. So I will just continue to make my delicious smoothies, drink water, apply coconut oil to my face and thank God for the healing that is commencing in my body by releasing the old toxic foods and old toxic thoughts. Many blessings to each and everyone of you. Jai! (Victory) Ellyn N. Gray
Guest guest
Hi Ellyn, Thanks for sharing with such honesty your process. I can identify with what you say about taking one thing and off you go. Those are my words - not yours. I call that the " addictive " part of food working in me. I know there are some foods that trigger me to want more of them. Flour, sugar, butter are a few of the worse ones for me. Now in your words: I have decided not to " do " anything about it. I am going to let nature do what it does. I am not even going to wear make up to try to conceal it. It would probably irritate my face more come to think of it. You decided not to use anything. Then you said: <<apply coconut oil to my face>> Coconut oil is something. I would invite you not to put that on either and see what comes about.
