Guest guest
Abagail & Alex, I have been reading your conversations about where to start and how to ease into a raw food lifestyle and wanted to share a few thoughts. You could focus on adding fruits and veggies to your present diet. For instance you could start every morning with only fruits for breakfast. Choose fruits that you love and enjoy. I make every morning a fruit only breakfast but I vary it between smoothies and just eating the whole fruit. I tend to have smoothies on week days because I can make and take it with me to drink in the car.... Then, after a week or when you feel comfortable expand the fruit to your lunch. Consider eating fruit only meals again, or raw veggies like a salad would be fine. Give yourself time to adjust to this and then move on to the evening meal. Once you are ready to tackle the evening meal you could have a salad and then steamed veggies. I don't know what your present diets are like, but would also suggest drinking plenty of water. Hope this gives you a few ideas! Leah 1b. Re: Newbie! Posted by: " Abagail Sparks " abby abberzoo Mon Oct 29, 2007 8:02 am ((PDT)) Hi Alex, Thanks for the kind welcome! I have a couple Raw info/recipe books coming in the mail soon that I am planning on reading before I start anything! I don't eat much raw unless I finish a banana or apple my kids don't eat. So this will be a huge change for me!!! I like most every fruit out there, but the veggies will be a bit hard. Hopefully my tastes will change with my diet change. I just came off the Atkins diet that my husband and I have been on for a few months. I lost about 15lbs or so, but I got really bored with it and stopped losing weight. I have at least 30 more pounds that I would like to lose to get back to my pre-marriage weight!!! I am going to be very careful in my transition as I do not want to make myself sick (as a mom, I can't take a sick day), I just want to be healthy and happy for once. -Abagail _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Alex Knight Saturday, October 27, 2007 10:31 AM rawfood Re: [Raw Food] Newbie! Welcome Abagail! I'm new to raw too, and fairly new here. There's been a lot of discord lately. I hope you are good with your delete key. There's also good info here and I've saved a few recipes that look good. I'm finding the transition a bit difficult. I'm not going to do it just all of a sudden, one day. I've decided that I'm going to plan and make one recipe a week, for a start, then increase it. That's in addition to the raw things I already eat, like smoothies and nuts and fruit, and I always have a container of vegetables in the refrigerator to pick from if I get hungry. I'm lucky, I've always loved vegetables. My big problem is my taste for sweets, so I think I will start with the dessert recipes. They look really good and I hope they will wean me away from the really junky food. Alex www.stampyleah.blogspot.com " Live simply so that others might simply live. Guest guest
Thank you, Leah, for your suggestions. Gradual is good, I agree. I've changed what I order when I eat out so that I get fresh greens (salads). One place that has " steamed vegetables " often serves them just about raw; it's hard to believe they cooked them more than a few seconds, so I order them. I hate making salads, and probably won't do it regularly until I can get some greens grown on my own. I finally got the Vitamix out today and made some soup. It wasn't that good, but I think I can improve on it next time. Next step is to take the dehydrator out. I do have fruit smoothies every day. I bought some kinds of fruits I'm not used to and am working my way up to trying new things in my smoothies. I do have and love lots of vegetables, so I'm mostly focusing on how to prepare them and make them fun. One thing I've been doing is eating things I already ate, but including some raw in them. For instance, tonight I had regular, old spaghetti for dinner, but had oil and raw veggies mixed in with it instead of the sauce I used to have. It's a start, anyway. I find that even though not everything I eat is raw, almost everything I eat now is organic and most of it is fresh. It's made a big difference in how I feel, and it's part of the transition for me. Much of the stuff I used to eat that was fun doesn't taste good anymore, and doesn't feel good after I've eaten it. Alex
