Guest guest
Hi Tim, thanks for asking me these questions. I only rinse off obvious clumps of dirt, unless I am having guests who do not share my general awarenesses about Nature's design. Then, as an accommodation to them, of course I rinse everything. I never " wash " anything, however. Even commercial producers, vulnerable as they are to lawsuits and such, don't typically " wash " fruits and vegetables. Rinse under pressure, sure, treat with heat and/or chemicals, sure, but " wash " , not in general, based upon those with whom I've spoken over the years. I rinse my hands when they seem dirty to me. Again, I don't apply " washing " chemicals to myself, any more than I would to my food. After using restroom facilities, I usually rinse my hands briefly. This I do out of habit, I suppose. Underneath this entire conversation is a way of thinking about cause-and-effect called the " germ theory " . Once one steps away from that entire way of thinking, the entire world shifts in some rather large and sometimes surprising ways. I mean, the fear of almost everything goes right out the window!! It's wonderfully uplifting. As I wrote earlier, there are no harmful bacteria, only weakened creatures (human or otherwise). I saw Erica's mention of spongifomr, and I'm not going to take up that example here. This has to do with different understandings of " mad cow disease " , and the technical aspects would go beyond what I believe is palatable in a group such as this. There is a big long discussion about the principle of vital adaptation that could be had .... that topic, I reserve for direct teaching, not email. Soaking Fruits & Veggies Elchanan, I used to do volunteer organizing work for the United Farm Workers and so yes I do know something about what I said here... And yes, we all have differing thresholds in this area of personal sanitation. Do you rinse your fruits and vegetables? Do you wash your hands before eating? How about after using restroom facilities? Tim
