Greetings Erica and all,

Erica what's with all the personal attacks upon Dr. Graham? I mean, he's not

even present here. If you ever decide to read Doug's book, perhaps you'll

begin to comprehend. Until then, quite honestly, you are the blind

attempting to lead the blind.

From a knowledgeable person's point of view, your continuing vendetta

against NH thinking and for some reason, Doug Graham in particular, passes

as so much uninformed nonsense.

Unfortunately, to the uninformed, your writings may seem " informative " .

I just encourage everyone reading this stuff to take it with a grain of

salt. Erica has (obviously) never read Doug's book, probably hasn't listened

to Doug talk much, either. And she surely is not listening to me, here! :):)

I've met some of the people who claimed that X program " didn't work for me " .

In almost every case (and regardless of what the program was), the person

never actually DID the program. They modified here, tweaked there, added

this and that, overlooked something else, and in general never really

learned the thought form beneath ... so OF COURSE the results they got were

quite different.

In the case of 80/10/10, I've talked over the years with various people who

said " it didn't work for me " . In every case in my personal experience, it

took only a few minutes to begin discovering that what the person had done

was not at all what Doug is teaching, or what I am teaching, or what anyone

I could even name was teaching. People who follow such a course are

pretenders. They pretend to follow someone's guidance, but in reality they

make stuff up on their own. Then they blame some poor writer or teacher when

they stuff they made up doesn't work.

I cannot overemphasize this distinction. Send me ANYONE who has " done

80/10/10 " and had it " not work for them " . I'll provide a list of

differences, and it won't take long!!!

People seem to believe they can just make stuff up and have it work. Once in

awhile, it does. But for the most part, it does not. I mean, just read all

the posts that go through this one group. But don't read them for content,

read them for level of awareness and understanding. It seems plain as day,

not only that people don't have much knowledge, but that most people don't

even know what questions to ask that would serve them best.

" My people shall perish for lack of knowledge. " (Hosea 4:6) Indeed!!!

A variant of " making stuff up " sounds like this: " I just read [whatever] and

listen to [whatever] and then make up my own mind. " Sounds great!!! But

there is a teeny, tiny problem lurking behind such " thinking " . Make up your

own mind based upon what? No knowledge of any science (or nearly so)? No

experience working with others who ARE sustainably healthy? Never having

achieved a healthy state before?

Based upon what??

People who succeed tend to choose a path and follow it faithfully. To an

extent, it doesn't even matter WHAT they follow. For example:

- People who genuinely follow 80/10/10 almost all succeed.

- People who genuinely follow Ann Wigmore almost all succeed.

- People who genuinely follow Dr. John McDougall (not raw at all) almost all

succeed.

- People who genuinely follow Dr. Esselstyn or Dr. Ornish or Dr. Fuhrman or

.... almost all succeed.

What do all these successful people have in common? THEY FOLLOWED. They

chose one primary teacher, at least for a time, and they they did whatever

that teacher told them to do. And voila, they EXPERIENCED results similar to

those the teacher him/herself experienced.

The same is true for the very best athletes in the world.

The same is true for the very best theatrical performers in the world.

The same is true for the very best research scientists in the world.

And so forth.

This is not to say that differences don't exist. For example, those who

follow a high-water-content, low-fat, low-protein diet and avoid stimulants,

depressants, and other enervating substances AND who are physically active,

rest well, get plenty of sunshine, choose work that they love, and so forth

.... all of which, by the way, are part of 80/10/10 ... such people, in my

experience, simply outperform others in the long-run. They are life's

genuine Energizer bunnies.

Many programs and approaches ... many not RF at all ... have the potential

to take people to a much healthier place than they have ever known before.

That's why EVERY teacher and every program sports testimonials!!! But I

speak now of reaching for the stars, of choosing not only to become

" healthy " , but to go beyond, to become the very best we can be. Only a few

programs or approaches have the capacity to take us there.

I would also comment upon the way we choose to think. (Yes, we can make this

a matter of clear and conscious choice.) I typically share not only ideas

about WHAT to do (what most people request), but also the thinking beneath.

I do this, in the hope that some readers here ... perhaps YOU ... will begin

to realize what wonderful opportunities lie before them if they shift some

beliefs and paradigms.

And sometimes I suggest rewriting the questions themselves. For when we ask

merely, " What should I do? " , what we receive back may sound good, but it

does little to lift us up to a more self-reliant place. In contrast, when we

explore the thinking, when we examine cause-and-effect relationships and

seek out repeatable patterns, then we stretch ourselves, expand our minds,

and build for ourselves a foundation for choice-making to sustain us when,

in the future, we encounter the inevitable unknown.

Best to all,

Elchanan

[Raw Food] The Downside Of 8/1/1 (WAS: Diabetes Type 2; Herbs &

Treatments)

It's only fair that the fact that not only do some become grossly deficient

and/or ill on long-term 8/1/1, but to also point out the scary reality that

complete and total disregard towards anybody's negative experiences on 8/1/1

is practiced not only by the minority on this board who continually

prescribe 8/1/1 to one and all, no

matter what and despite the negative experiences of a good number of people,

but by Doug Graham himself.

I actually HAVE read the book. As I've always said, I like some

principles. Ditto for Natural Hygiene. What you have not read is any

other books on Natural Health, or you would not continually slam

herbs, cleansing, or any other raw diet that works for others.

I've studied Shelton, Ehret, Fry and more. I have no vendetta against

NH. I do take issue with those who are zealots and who do not

acknowledge other's experiences, nor any other possibly means of

health. Elchanan, you sound more like an infomercial for 8/1/1 than a

health educator --- from a knowledgeable person's point of view. Erica
