Guest guest
Hello All, I would love to get some advice/thoughts. Here's a little history. I became a vegetarian about 17 years ago (I am going to be 40 in February). For the first three and a half years, I was a vegan. Over time, I ate fish once in a blue moon. About 14 months ago, I committed to stop eating fish. About eight months ago, I became a vegan. The next shift was to move towards a raw diet. For five weeks, I ate one cooked meal per day. Fruit for breakfast and one of the other meals raw plus all snacks raw. I did this for five weeks. I went a slower route to avoid a big detox (I know that some of you don't like that word). I had migraines the first two days and then went 37 days without a migraine! This was world record! The longest I had gone in 22 years was 23 days (and that was with a frightening medication). After about 10 days of feeling pretty poorly, I began to feel better. I noticed a few things. When I ate cooked foods, I would overeat. I " had " to finish whatever was on my plate. When I ate raw meals, when I felt full, I stopped eating. Cooked left me bloated and feeling exhausted, for hours. Raw, I had energy and my stomach felt great. So, I decided it was time to move forward. I have been eating 100% raw for 15 days so far. I got a migraine on day three. I've been fine for the past 12 days. I mostly feel great thus far. The reason I wanted to move in the direction of raw was due to some chronic symptoms/issues that I have been dealing with for far too many years. And the fact that we are doing PR for the movie 'Raw for 30 Days.' Migraines/tension headaches - 22 years Allergies - 10 years Digestion/constipation/bloating - 22 years Anxiety - 3 years Becoming a vegetarian 17 years ago was for ethical reasons, vegan for environmental, spiritual, social justice and health reasons. Moving raw is to heal. Now for the advice/thoughts. I love food. I really enjoy the sensualness and texture of food. I have been eating fruit for breakfast, a nice salad with a homemade dressing and soups or pre-made foods from Whole Foods and one local raw restaurant. I want to learn how to make beautiful and tasty foods. Don't get me wrong, I love my salads, but I want variety (and still very healthful). I bought a Vita-Mix Turbo 4500 yesterday and hope to get it by the end of the week. I am hoping to be able to make some cool meals with this tool. I also want to make green smoothies for breakfast. Eating a three large leaves of kale and some spinach in a salad is probably not enough greens. Does anyone have a great smoothie recipe that is super healthy? Can anyone recommend a good recipe book? Something that someone who never really cooked can follow and enjoy? I've read 'Living Foods for Optimal Health' and have 'Spiritual Nutrition' by Gabriel Cousens. I'm a bit intimidated by the size and scope of SN. Can anyone recommend a great overview book. I know that Elchanan recommends '80/10/10.' This is probably long enough! I appreciate all who have read my post and all who will be kind enough to respond. Best, Gary www.evolotuspr.com
Guest guest
Gary My Vita Mix is the only thing in the kitchen I use on a daily basis. I just love my Vita Mix. In the next email I will try to post a list of recipes I have for juicing. I don't follow recipes any more. I just open the freezer and frig and see what I have and do a little of this and a little of that. My favorite is carrot + ginger and I love Kale + banana + cranberry. You will find your own concoctions. At least you are in a good state - California - for fruits and vegetables. [i used to live in Toluca Lake]. Miss CA. Thanks for the input on Migraines. I went out a few days ago and had a Sadist dinner and awakened with a awful headache. Never put 2 + 2 together as to when and why I get headaches. Will be aware now. Guest guest
Hi Lori, Thank you for responding and for the great juice recipes. The green smoothie recipes response was unreadable. Can you repost? Thanks! Gary www.evolotuspr.com rawfood , CrashCrazy wrote: > > Gary > > My Vita Mix is the only thing in the kitchen I use on a daily basis. > I just love my Vita Mix.
