This was canonized as part of the U.S. Constitution in 1868 when the essence of it became the 14th Amendment. What it says, first paragraph: ___ Section. 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. ___ Sounds harmless enough, yes? Now this, hopefully requiring no introduction or explanation: ___ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights .... ___ What are rights? What are privileges and immunities? What does this " little shift " in language mean? If people are interested, I'll write more. All men are created equal. Some are just more equal than others... I'm a pretty progressive person. But just being " born " here, even if you are in the country for a day and your parents are here illegally, hardly should make anyone a citizen, worthy of being catered to by our government with money that we don't have for Americans.
