Imbecilic Studies (WAS: Vitamin B12)

Now we're down to basic reading skills ... most of the people STUDIED were

vegetarian. That's the selection process, not the results!!!

By the time someone has " dementia " (a vague, poorly defined diagnosis, by

the way), many things have occurred along the way. By that time, the person

is likely deficient in tens of thousands of nutrients ... in other words,

the person has been starving for years. Such studies are imbecilic nonsense.

It remains only for some here to realize this.

Look at what they said, assuming that you have the information correct:

___

And amongst the most common causes of B12 deficiency are SAD diet, microwave

ovens, antacids and antibiotics and Vegan diets ._,___

___

In other words, they boldly claim that all diets are among the most common

causes of B12 deficiency. Now there's a bombshell worthy of a Nobel prize,

eh? I mean, do you actually read what's being said!!! ???

Further, any good scientist knows that statistical analysis ONLY shows

correlation, NEVER causation. This is so by definition, it's inherent in the

way statistical methods are designed, in the underlying mathematical proofs

that justify using these methods for anything at all. So whatever the

scientists said about causation, or MORE LIKELY WHATEVER THE MEDIA

REINTERPRETED INTO CAUSATION, is simply nonsense. And this is one of the

great fallacies of all these studies. The questions asked, the methods used,

etc. all express the bias of those conducting the study. And in most cases,

due to limited funding, the compromises and assumptions made are enough to

cause one simply to toss the entire study on the ash heap. I've read enough

of these things ... and I DO have enough background ... to comprehend at

this level.

And honestly, this is why T. Colin Campbell referred to these as " imbecilic

studies " in The China Study ... I've borrow my subject line from him.

Let's look further at this work of brilliance, this study to which you

refer. You write:

___

Listed amongst the observable effects of deficiency of B12 are depression,

paranoid psychosis, Bipolar disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma,

disrupted sleep, environmental illness, low stress-tolerance....

___

Well, now, these symptoms are certainly unique to a B12 deficiency, aren't

they?? !!! In the words of the venerable Colonel Sherman T. Potter,

" Horsehockey!! " (For those unfamiliar, a leading role in the one of the most

famous and successful television series of all time, M.A.S.H.)

You can quote studies until the cows come home, but until you comprehend how

they are conducted, who funds them, how " outlier data " are handled, what

assumptions were made, the size of the population studied, population and

control group selection criteria, statistical analysis techniques used, and

much, much more, then you have no clue how to interpret the study. And since

you are undoubtedly reading articles in the popular press ABOUT the study,

rather than the study itself, you know almost nothing, and the likelihood of

misinformation beyond mere missing information is extremely high.

And yes, there have been studies about that, too!!! Quite a few, actually,

and in many different fields of research. One study, in fact, found that the

#1 correlation that " explains " (in the statistical sense, at least) how

doctors arrive at diagnoses is the medical school they attended. Why?

Because we humans tend to find what we are looking for, or in this case,

what they are TRAINED to look for. Different medical school, different

emphasis in the training. The result: a systematic pattern of

school-dependent diagnoses.

And what does this have to do with the patient? Absolutely nothing ... and

that is the point. People who think they know something about vitamin B12 go

looking for B12 problems. People who think they know something about liver

or gall bladder cleanses advocate them for almost any ailment that arises.

And people who genuinely comprehend the mechanisms through which health

occurs ... through which WE CREATE OUT OWN HEALTH ... do none of these

things ... systematically!

Best,

Elchanan

I have to agree with you Erica,

in a report I have just read " High Dose vitamin B12 in the treatment of

Dementia " , it states " In a recent study from India, published in Neurology

India, most of the B12 deficient people studied were 'vegatarian'.

And amongst the most common causes of B12 deficiency are SAD diet, microwave

ovens, antacids and antibiotics and Vegan diets.

Listed amongst the observable effects of deficiency of B12 are depression,

paranoid psychosis, Bipolar disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma,

disrupted sleep, environmental illness, low stress-tolerance....

Paranoid Psychosis is described " characterised by over-suspiciousness and

delusions of grandeur or persecution " .

If this is correct, then intransigence over 'a perfect diet' is not

surprising.
