Guest guest
Hi Nancy, First, I believe that the language we use is important for our overall well-being. I suggest dropping " healing crisis " (though I realize the phrase is popular with some) and instead speak of the body's natural processes for cleansing and restoring itself. Our bodies are always poised, set to begin cleaning house and restoring themselves the moment we improve any aspect of our health. Whether we improve our diet, activity, rest, or other factors, our body makes the very best use it can of whatever we provide in every moment. It's natural, therefore, to experience some symptoms of this cleansing. Think of it this way: at some time past, your body probably created one or more " sore throats " , attempting to cleanse and restore itself back then. And you probably intervened, taking something to " knock out " that cold or whatever. So your body never was able to complete its mission. Now, it resumes. These symptoms will readily pass, if you are patient and allow your body to pursue its own course. [...] Ah, but that's quite the mouthful, no? I can just see it now: " This fast is really clearing my head, but man, my 'body's natural processes for cleansing and restoring itself' are brutal! LOL. Language, of course, serves the purpose also of providing a short-cut to readily agreed upon definitions. That said, I know what you're saying here, that calling it a crisis creates a negative connotation for what should be seen as a restorative process. How about we call it a " physical catharsis?
