Guest guest
Well, is such kind of self-exception allowed in between the " Spanish Inquisition of Raw Fooders " ? I am sure that anybody who has even a little understanding of food would agree that Alcohol, Chocolate and Coffee are not foods that anybody could nourish their bodies with. These items though sure taste damn good and I enjoy it! 1. Once in a while I drink a glass of wine with my dinner (not a cheep " Barn Chablis out of a gallon container " ). Since I lived for about 16 years with a wine farmer family, I know that even in wine productions are huge differences. 2. Aside making my own raw chocolate at the Good Mood Food Cafe, I sure indulge few times a year the absolutely out of this world heavenly tasting Ferrero Rocher Golden Balls (an old Italian chocolate company). 3. And sure enough I enjoy my daily cappuccino for now 28 years. These items are no food, I absolutely agree! But they are sure an enjoyment, if treated in the right way (of course not for everybody! Just like not everbody likes the same food). So don't eat or drink these them, if you can't handle them. My experience here in America is, that people seem not to be able to deal with such enjoyments and make them to their daily " must have habits " . Well, then they are not a treat anymore! 1. Many people can't deal with alcohol. Alcohol is not meant to have every day, three times a day! -By the way, wasn't Jesus " creating " more wine at the wedding in Kanaan and didn't he drink wine himself? I'm just curious!- Not that I want to refer to the bible, but historically people drank alcohol only for special occasions. 2. The coffee situation is catastrophically. The American population drinks the " dishwashing water " drip coffee like water, any time of the day. Coffee since its invention or development in the 1500's was only seen as a treat once in a while. Who destroyed these culture? - Starbucks? ) Can't be, because drip coffee existed in America before Starbucks. 3. And the same with chocolate. Chocolate was never meant to be eaten daily and especially not in large amounts as people do it these days. 4. And if it is not chocolate, then people eat other tons of sweets. Anything that one eats, even raw food, in excess is not good. Too many nuts every day are not healthy, too many raw desserts are not good, too many oranges a day can cause trouble, just like many other items. If people learn how to deal with real food on a daily basis and nourish their body with necessary nutrition, only then the health of the population will increase drastically. Diseases come from eating constant the wrong things without the proper nutritional value, not because one eats here and then a chocolate or drinks one espresso or dishwashing water, or drinks alcohol on special occasions. My work in the raw food world and at our Good Mood Food Cafe is to teach and train people, which food does what in the body, so that they are able to decide on their own what to eat - and sometime what they want to enjoy. I will have some alcohol when I see fit. Coffee is gross, but I would drink it before eating animals. I pretty much understand exceptions to the rule, totally, and you are right that people get sick from doing it consistently, etc. What I do take issue with is when people validate animal products in the same way - sure, once a month won't " kill " you, but it WILL kill SOMETHING. It's just not in the same arena. It's violent and causes death. Otherwise, if people want to eat their dark chocolate, wine or even some form of coffee straight, I don't care as much. I care much more if they stray in terms of animal products... Erica
