Guest guest
Labels, labels, so many people seem unwilling or unable to have a conversation without resorting to labeling others. I do not recall anyone using the term " fruitarian " in this thread; perhaps I missed something. There is a profound distinction between eating green leaves, which are the " factories " of plants, and eating the OUTPUTS of those plants, which are fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and of course their antecedents, flowers. (I realize I'm oversimplifying here a bit.) I find that most people, from babes to scientists, lose sight of this distinction. We are best designed to eat fruits and green leaves. We CAN eat many other things. The healthiest people I have known eat primarily fruits and green leaves. I agree, there is nothing " wrong " with eating whatever each of us eats ... even table legs, if those seem appetizing to someone. )And yes, even a table leg contains SOME nutrients. But this does not make it food for humans.) Many people are trapped in the following line of thinking: if it contains good nutrients, then it's a good food for our species. But this way of thinking traps us, it does not uplift us, and it does not lead us toward fulfillment of our highest potential. Rather, stepping back to appreciate the whole, Nature's entire design, leads us in this direction. So as I posted yesterday (or the day before), each of us shall eat as he/she wishes. A precious few will make a conscious choice to seek out what is optimal, to become the very best they can become. Those few will discover, along their journey, that eating true vegetables slows them down, at least a bit. (By " true vegetables " , I exclude those fruits that are sometimes thought of as vegetables, such as zucchini, okra, etc.) Best, Elchanan _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Margaret Gamez Saturday, September 01, 2007 7:03 PM rawfood Re: [Raw Food] ELCHANAN carrot juicing? Some of us do have sensitivities to certain fruit and vegetables. One of the most common sensitivities is to citrus and citrus-y fruit, such as lemons, oranges, and tomatoes. These fruit/vegetables can cause all sorts of unpleasant reactions, from itching to migraines (in those prone to migraines) If you are eating non-organic (no judgment, just advising you), you should wash carefully and peel the fruit or vegetable. Who knows what chemicals might be on the skin of the fruit or vegetables. Even organic fruit and vegetables can cause reactions... Always wash very carefully. If you can, soak the vegetables in a vegetable cleaner, or clorox (if you don't like this idea, don't do it, but clorox is one of the best removers of " stuff " from the skins of vegetables and fruit. Just soak for 10 mins. then rinse well to remove any traces of the clorox. I am, myself, recovering from an itch fest brought on by eating too many tomatoes (I love them, but I am sensitive them). I have received a lot of tomatoes from my CSA, and I had been drinking tomato juice made from @3 tomatoes plus other vegetables at least twice a day, and eating whole tomatoes AND having tomato sauce on my dinner food. I finally realized what the source of my agony was and stopped the juice. I hope this helps Margaret
