Guest guest
Greetings everyone. I started transitioning to raw foods diet a couple of weeks ago due to increasing poor health and becoming so weak that most of my days 14 to 16 and sometimes 18 hours in bed almost everyday. I have already gotten a lot from this group and the website and other raw websites I see mentioned and googled---and I just wanted to become more active in the raw community. I appreciate your support and thanks for the great information you all share. I read somewhere (maybe even here) that ppl have taken ripe bananas and froze whole (or chopped and froze) to use in blender drinks at a later date. What is the consensus for frozen foods for a raw foods diet? And what about frozen veggies that manufactures claim where frozen immediately once picked? Thanks in advance for ur input. Guest guest
Hi Trish, Welcome. In looking at nature, I find that frozen foods are probably not ideal, but are a minor compromise for me at this point and useful at times. I wouldn't purposely freeze bananas ahead to use for smoothies, myself, because I'd rather use fresh ones. But if I have too many bananas going ripe, I'll freeze some and use them for smoothies or banana " ice cream " blended in the Vitamix. If there are fruits I want that I can't get fresh (especially in winter in Seattle), like mangoes, which I LOVE, I'll buy those frozen and add them to smoothies. There are probably some posts with more info in the archives about frozen food destroying bacteria in the stomach or other negative effects. Again, fresh is better, but frozen is still somewhat nutritious, and definitely not as harmful as a lot of other choices! Depends where you are, and where you want to go, I think...
