Hi Margaret!

I admire your creativity and ingenuity in developing the recipes, and,

as requested, I offer a few comments. These are offered from a

hygienic perspective.

Doug Graham does an excellent job defining " Hygiene " in his book,

" Hygienic Fasting " , as follows:

[Hygienic Fasting

by Douglas N. Graham, DC What is Hygiene?

Hygiene is defined in Blakiston's Medical Dictionary as " The science

that treats of the laws of health and methods of their observation " . The

word " hygiene, " is based in Greek mythology; Hygeia was the Greek

goddess of health. Today, a hygienist is, according to Blakiston's, " One

who is trained in the science of health. " The worldwide Hygiene movement

is peopled by millions of " health enthusiasts " . Hygienic practitioners

are primary care physicians who specialize in health. They practice in a

manner that enables their patients to regain and maintain the highest

possible health that their individual organism can display. This is

achieved through:

1. Education as to the causes of their ill health.

2. Instruction regarding the conditions necessary for maintaining

optimal health.

3. Assistance with the processes of change required to develop healthy

habits....]

" Hygienic

Fasting " , p.1 Dr. Doug Graham

" ...The box I got had:

Yellow potatoes. kale, garlic, purslane, zucchini, carrots, stirfry

green peppers, blueberries, and peaches... "

One of the first recommendations for " foods " is that they not be

poisonous. In looking at the first recipe, for Gazpacho, it contains

" apple cider vinegar " , which is simply diluted acetic acid,

which is poisonous. So, I recommend deleting that. Then is has salt,

another poison, recommend deleting that. Then it has pepper - a know

irritant, recommend deleting that. Next it has a host of " condiments " ,

some/many of which are known irritants/stimulants, amongst these would

be garlic, onion, basil, tarragon and cumin. Recommend deleting them.

Much of this information is covered very nicely in the Life Science

Health System, (LSHS), Lesson #29 " Why Condiments Should Not be Included

in the Diet " - This is a free offering from the Path of Health

community, and I offer some of the rest of the lessons for exchange.

(planning to *someday* offer all of them.) More information is

available at 's PathOfHealth group, which is now an exchange

community.

This free lesson may be found here: LSHS/Lesson_029-000_Condiments.pdf

<http://www.PathOfHealth.org/Library/Health & Well-Being/LSHS/Lesson_029-0\

00_Condiments.pdf>

I encourage anyone interested in learning more about Natural Hygiene,

and how it relates

to condiments, seasonings, etc. to read it.

Many of the principles from this entire course can be found for free

here:

http://www.rawfoodexplained.com/condiments/

<http://www.rawfoodexplained.com/condiments/> (note that I have

nothing to do with this

site - offering it as another good, hygienic perspective/educational

resource.)

Next, I'd remove the olive oil, a highly refined substance, and 100%

fat. Doing that, would

now leave us with a recipe that looks somewhat like this:

4 C tomato juice (you juice according to your recipe†" you can

just put a lot of tomatoes in the VitaMix and blend them into submission

†" that is the easiest way)

2 C diced tomatoes

1 cucumber, peeled and finely minced (organic cukes' skins are fine..)

2 C purslane

3 T lemon (or lime) juice

I've had several recipes close to this: it tastes fine, and more

importantly, doesn't have the poisons, stimulants or irritants.

Out of the original box you'd received, I'd personally do the following:

Keep the zucchini, carrots, blueberries and peaches. Give balance away,

or compost it.

I'd eat the blueberries and peaches separately, and use the balance in a

nice salad.

I also offer the hope that the CSA produced organic produce, otherwise

some of

these remaining items may be heavily treated.

I realize that this may not be the comments you were looking for, and I

hope it proves at least thought-provoking, and possibly provides

insightful, educational and useful information.

best,

Hello:

I've been receiving boxes of food from my CSA since late May, and I've

just decided that I should track the recipes I've come up with for the

adventurous vegetables I've been receiving.

I've put the recipes for last week and this week on my new blog

http://prettysmartrawfoodideas.wordpress.com/ If you would like to check

it out and give me your comments btw, I do not recommend doing all of

the recipes in one meal - that would be a food combining nightmare, I

think.

Thanks Margaret

Wow! I wonder if natural hygienists at least *secretly* cringe

when they read back over recommendations that suggest scrapping

half of a CSA box! It's not like she presented a cartful of

boxed and canned processed foods. This was all good stuff from

Mother Earth, baby. :)

Ah well. Consider yourself blogroll'd Margaret. I used your

first name, because when I actually " know " the person, I like

to give a sense of the community.

Keep enjoying your summer bounty,

-Erin
