Yes, the word " Nature " has long been used as a surrogate for Divinity,

and/or among people who wish to acknowledge some vast organization and

intelligence in the Universe without specific reference to any form of

divinity/deity. Consider, for example, the use of " the Laws of Nature and

Nature's God " in the American Declaration of Independence. Here we see an

expression of the confluence of philosophy, religion (particularly Deism),

and law, at the very least, held forth as the source of existence and of

morality, the force behind all that is, the source of authority upon which

the Founders rested their claims and proclamations.

Consider also the phrase " mother nature " , used in common parlance for quite

some time.

One might describe Nature is being of self-derived existence. Or, one might

ascribe that characteristic to a deity and then declare Nature to be (a part

of) the Creation, or Existence or existence.

Here we tread upon the unknowable ... we create language to the best of our

ability, to suit our purposes from time to time. But in a sense, all such

use of language is merely construction of rather elaborate imagery.

Actually scientists repeatedly refer to nature's design, and nature as a

designer. Google it and you will find article after article on this. Nature

also tends to find a way to recreate and sustain itself.

" Here we tread upon the unknowable ... "

This is precisely my point. Making claims

about the Designer or the Designer's purpose

seems presumptive to me.
