Guest guest
Hi Chris, No, though this misconception travels widely in the RF world. What is correct is what I wrote earlier: the human body will sacrifice almost anything (other than your next breath) to maintain blood pH within a very narrow range, in the vicinity of 7.35-7.4, a tad to the alkaline side of neutral. If the blood pH deviates much in either direction, we experience severe symptoms and death. It is correct to say that most of the health-destroying conditions we now observe arise in an overly acidic body ... but what this really means is quite a bit more complex than that statement implies, getting into lengthy discussions about chemical buffers and other matters. (Coincidentally, I wrote on potassium as a buffer sometime last week.) But hyperalkalinity is perhaps even more devastating. The reason we do not discuss it much, is that few people ever have a problem with hyperalkalinity. However, if one were to set out consciously to raise one's pH as far as possible, one could create such a condition, where minerals such as phosphorous and the like were eventually overwhelmed by an overabundance of alkaline minerals. What we desire is a diet that brings us enough acid-forming minerals to fulfill our metabolic requirements for such minerals (phosphorous, sulfur, etc.) AND that brings us enough alkaline-forming minerals to fulfill our metabolic requirements for such minerals AND provide sufficient buffers to compensate for metabolic waste, including waste resulting from activity (such as lactic acid in the muscles). A diet of fruits and tender greens generally accomplishes this most efficiently and effectively (with some allowance for soil depletion and variation, and allowing for a few fruits that may come in slightly acid-forming even when fully ripened on the plant). Attempts to hyperalkalize the body through " alkaline water " and the like miss the point: we create health by living healthfully, not by living self-abusively and then trying to " fix " things somehow. Hope this helps! Elchanan _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Chris Wednesday, July 18, 2007 11:32 AM rawfood [Raw Food] Re: Alkalinity??? What I am trying to figure out is what the healthiest balance of acid/alkalinity is to get rid of all disease and how to achieve it. Isn't it right that disease cannot live in an alkaline body?
