Guest guest
I sense some fear about eating simply and living life simply. It is a process of healing and transformation to move from SAD (Standard American Diet), to SAD vegetarian, to SAD vegan, to raw vegan, to 80/10/10. A person who is in the middle of a transformation will see, taste, smell, and feel through a different lens as he/she moves from phase to phase of that transformation. There is no reason to feel guilty about anything, though I often wish I lived my first four decades of life with an accurate knowledge about health, and a deeper respect for all living things. Most of the information about Natural Hygiene has been around since before my birth, afterall. I find that a Natural Hygiene approach to eating has reconnected me to food. It is pleasurable to eat juicy, sweet, mangoes, watermelons, cantaloupes, figs, dates, etc. And, it's nice to have soooo much compost to give back to the earth, less packaging to recycle, less cookware and dishes to wash, etc. It leaves more time for fun things! Less really is more. And, I'm sure there are many people practicing NH who have given up their car, among many other things. For now, I'm driving a car I inherited after my sweet mother died a wretched death. I'm hoping to own a Prius or other hybrid. Time will tell. So long as your focus is on food and not on true health, then you are still sort of a prisoner to food, so what? what business is it of yours or theirs? as Byron Katie would say " that's not your business " . neal. byron katie does good work! <gong!> It is simply untrue, once again, and only NH propaganda, that all raw vegans who enjoy some gourmet raw meals have eating disorders. That is an assumption of no merit, sorry, and surely insulting to many. Food is fuel but it is also so much more. It is nourishment! Like sex, it has a function, but it is joyful! I don't hear a lot of JOY emanating from some of these NH posts. There is nothing wrong with enjoying your nourishing health food. Does everyone here know that? I'm not sure. Animals ENJOY their food. It is more than just calories and nutrients to them. :-) Interesting thought: under similar logic as the original post it could be argued that Natural Hygiene philosophy encourages such an emotional disconnect from food as nourishment that other aspects of the person's socialization suffers. So, which is worse? We live in a civilization, not a jungle. Some criticize us for using a juicer, but then they hop in their car, etc. We are not chimps. Most hygienists I know argue against supplements as unnatural but never consider that animals in the jungle do not deal with the levels of pollution we are hit with daily, even riding behind a semi, or the nutrient depletion caused by stress, etc. So many different factors!
