Guest guest Report post Posted May 12, 2007 April introduced me to paperbackswap.com a little while ago. It's a really neat way to trade books you're done with for the stuff you want for the price of shipping. Guest guest Report post Posted December 29, 2007 If you want a dessert cookbook try Sweet and Natural by Meredith McCarty. She uses alternative sweeteners and whole grain flour. : mgyp2000: Sat, 29 Dec 2007 21:22:35 +0000 Cookbooks I am going to be buying a couple of cookbooks and wondered if anyone would mind telling me the name of thier favorite cookbook. I do not eat pasta or white flour products. Also, tell me why you like the cookbook you are suggesting. Thank you, Wanda
Guest guest Report post Posted December 29, 2007 I have many favorites, but probably my top picks would be Cooking With Rachel by Rachel Albert and Cooking the Whole Foods Way by Christina Pirello. They are my favorites because of the interesting delicious ideas they provide. I got a lot of great tips and techniques from both of them that I have incorporated into other recipes. The recipes range from very simple to a bit more complex. I find I turn to them again and again. , " mgyp2000 " <mgyp2000 wrote: > > I am going to be buying a couple of cookbooks and wondered if anyone > would mind telling me the name of thier favorite cookbook. Guest guest Report post Posted December 30, 2007 The Essential Vegetarian Cookbook And the reason I like it so well, is that with almost every recipe there are suggestions as to how to vary it, to make it your own recipe. Plus it lists storage times, both refrigerator and freezer. It also has menu plans, conversion charts etc. Di mgyp2000 <mgyp2000 wrote: I am going to be buying a couple of cookbooks and wondered if anyone would mind telling me the name of thier favorite cookbook. Guest guest Report post Posted December 30, 2007 My new best favorite (today!) is " How to Cook Everything Vegetarian: Simple Meatless Recipes for Great Food " by Mark Bittman. When he say everything, he means everything! This cookbook is HUGE. And it covers everything: vegetarian diet and nutrition, shopping, ethnic foods, and basics such as how to cook various grains and beans. He also gives numerous variations for his dishes, so there are lots of ways to use the recipes. This cookbook also has recipes for vegetarian and vegan condiments like Worcestershire sauce and oyster sauce. If you are off the beaten track, its helpful to make your own. The book has a hefty retail price tag of $35.00, but Amazon has it for $20.99 and its worth every cent. Chupa
Guest guest Report post Posted December 30, 2007 I bought one and once I got it I felt like crying. It was a little 10 page pamphlet, not the book I had wanted at all. I was still disappointed and angry, but it was titled " Essential Vegetarian " . Katie Sharon Zakhour <sharon.zakhour wrote: I just checked Amazon and there are 4 different cookbooks with this title. Guest guest Report post Posted June 16, 2008 A friend of ours gave us " Better Than Peanut Butter and Jelly " (I forget the author, but you can look it up on amazon). It's a vegetarian book, has a few vegan option, and some are easily converted (sub vegan versions of cheese/milk/egg). Some aren't really very extravagant, they're all geared to be family/kid friendly, too. They're fairly simple recipes for the most part and I think it also give basic menu ideas, too. The Veganomicon has been my newest favorite (and I've had it for a while now). It gives a lot of different kinds of recipes, and even breaks them down into gluten-free, grocery store friendly, 45min or less. I've not even tapped into most of the recipes in there, but every one of them has been good. Simply Vegan has some decent things, too, and we have the two Moosewood ones, plus one other one (It's a table top book). They're all pretty decent. I really want to get the Vegan Family Favorites, it's supposed to be very good. Guest guest Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I also like any of the vegan cookbooks by Dreena Burton -- good basic info on vegan cooking, and interesting recipes Jennifer Raymond -- lots of basic tasty reliable recipes using easy to find ingredients, tested many many times in her vegan cooking classes. When nonvegans ask for vegan recipes, I look for one of hers. Joanne Stepaniak -- she has a bunch of small cookbooks, one of which is all about making fake cheeses from nuts and nutritional yeast. I've known people who've made these, but have never made them myself -- I'd rather eat the nuts. (even though I read cookbooks for ideas, then make up my own recipes)
