Guest guest
Have you read Michael Pollan's " In Defense of Food " He makes this point very clear - that ethnic eating is better than American diet. If you have not yet read it, I highly recommend it - quick read, lots of great points. Basic premise is " Eat Food, not too much, mostly plants " Of course he does have to define what food is for many people no longer realize what food really IS. Those diets are thousands of years old, much older than that developed by white, European settlers to North America since the 1600s. Most ethnic diets are based on plant foods (rather than meat) and non-wheat. I'm glad North America is learning from this, welcoming more of these ethnic restaurants and making life easier for us all. > > With all the issues Canada and the United States have with health care, one of the BEST solutions I can think of is for people to eat healthier which greatly reduces dependence on health care in general. Guest guest
I read In Defense of Food as well as The Omnivore's Dilemma. It was especially helpful because of my corn intolerances as well as gluten and he affirmed everything we believe in. He is also very convincing and interesting. In one section of the book he talks about sustainable farming on a place called Pollyface Farms. I wish that all of farming could be this way, and I think we as a society would be a lot healthier. Guest guest
There are lots of places that farm similarly to Polyface. You can find ones near you by using www.localharvest.org.
