Carob? Carob vs chocolate

Suzie, carob and chocolate may look a lot a like but they are very different in

every other way. The major differences are that carob lacks all the narcotics

contained in chocolate, and carob is naturally (mildly) sweet whereas cocoa is

bitter.

Here is a website comparing the two from a fairly objective point of view.

From my own experience, carob has it's place but trying to use it as a chocolate

substitute is a mistake. If a person is expecting chocolate, carob will be a

serious disappointment. It does however, make a nutritious addition to ones

diet, as itself.

I happened to try raw carob once, which I totally don't recommend. I thought it

was gross. The roasted stuff, which is more common, is MUCH better, in my

opinion.

What is the difference between carob and chocolate? What does carob

taste like? The only time I have had carob was when I was growing up my

friend's mom would make carob chip cookies and I just remember they were

nasty. But everything else she made was wonderful so I figured it must

have been the carob. :)

Thanks!
