Guest guest
I was on Adderall for ADD for a couple of years before I was diagnosed with Lyme. This may seem out of left field, but if it helps, it's worth looking into. Lymies are often gluten intolerant. There's a long thread at celiac.com on Lyme Disease because of this. You might want to scan through it if your daughter has physical symptoms. http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=36163 It became terribly obvious I was reacting to gluten within 6 months of going vegan (probably because I was eating so much more bread, veggie burgers, and seitan). Then six months later I was diagnosed with Lyme. Here's a brief article on Lyme and attention deficit disorder. http://www.parenting-child-development.com/lyme-disease.html I got the great book on ADD by Dr. Amen soon after it was published, and tried all the natural remedies because my symptoms covered such a vast range. Some actually did help, but not enough because I had a chronic underlying infection the whole time. When I started trying ADD medication it did help for awhile, but eventually I got to feeling too burned out, and worse, and had to stop because it was taking more and more pills to have any affect. I love the Buhner herbal protocol for Lyme Disease, so if it comes to that, there are a few good natural protocols that work well. Much better than antibiotics, in the long run. I am certainly acquainted with lack of appetite. You can lose your sense of taste with Lyme. My diet got worse and worse for years, because something *really* had to be full of " flavor " (fat, sugar, salt, MSG) for me to be motivated to eat at all (pre-vegan). Well, since the medication is the cause of the lack of appetite and weight loss, the solution would seem to be weaning her off the medication. Anything less would probably provide partial results at best, and possibly complete failure. > > What is the medication? ... and what is it for? > > There are a LOT of very resourceful people on this list, at least one of whom may offer a healthy alternative! > > Deborah > > It's a good thought, but yes. She's on medication that causes the lack of appetite and weight loss. Also, I purposely glutened her (without her knowledge) a few months back and WHOOOBOY, yes, I can definitely tell when she's gotten any gluten. > > Shannon > > Deborah Pageau > > Underweight and lack of appetite could also be from non-food issues, but they are certainly issues associated with active gluten intolerance.
