Guest guest
I have been working on my garden in Ohio. It's a lasagna or layered style of gardening. It's no till and few if any weeds! So far it's all been free! 1. Put a layer of wet newspaper or wet cardboard on the ground. 2. A layer of brown leaves. 3. A layer of kitchen compost. 4. A layer of old chicken manure. 5. A layer of straw. 6. A layer of leaves. Let it sit all soaked in water until time to plant for me in May. Plant seeds or plants in dirt below newspaper. All of my seeds are heirloom seeds so that I can replant seeds from my harvest each year. Michelle
Guest guest
I just wanted to say to use whatever organic matter you have available. I have a brother with a small farm. He said I could have a bail of straw and 2 year old chicken manure he had sitting outside. We figure since the manure was outside in the rain it wouldn't be heavy in nitrogen anymore for my plants. The earlier you get that first layer on the ground the better. That way the weeds don't have time to germinate/grow before planting.
