I used " distraction technique " with my daughter when she was small, but I hadn't thought of using it with " well meaning " adults. There's lots of ways to do that. Simply asking the other person to talk about themselves will usually do it, but I confess, I rather like this idea of calling up an issue that will trigger an even MORE dramatic reaction than our eating habits. :-) Michelle wrote: I don't get why people who eat meat get so defensive when I don't eat meat. My response: I figure it is their guilt talking. They KNOW it would do them go and are in denial. Michelle wrote: I ate meat for a couple of decades. I've done my share of it (some of my friends and I joke that " We've done our time - now we're out for good behavior " ). <snip> Humor goes further than anything. <snip> If you can laugh about that, then you'll be fine. My response: Clearly! I feel better just having read your post that gave me some giggles. Thanks! Deborah
