Guest guest
When my kids were very picky, smoothies were my friend. I started off with fruits they loved. The first few smoothies they ate were strawberry and banana, mango and banana and cashews and banana. Once the smoothie drinking habit was well established I started serving the smoothies in those disposable " on the go " cups. They are colored cups with colored lids and straws that you find in the baby section. The plastic is translucent so the kids can see their smoothies but not the real color of it. (I normally avoid plastic with my kids but for this the plastic is necessary). Once they were used to drinking from these cups I started slowly, slowly adding things to the smoothies. First I added some white beans (white beans are almost flavorless). then I'd add some raw nuts as well. finally I started adding baby spinach leaves to the mango banana one. I did this very slowly until I was using equal parts of mango and spinach. Then I switched to frozen spinach which works out cheaper and easier to use. finally when the kids were used to eating this, I left off hte lid. They expressed surprise at the green color but I reminded them that it was the identical smoothie they had been eating from weeks. once they were used to that, I switched back to normal glasses. I used the " how to boil a frog " theory with the kids. My son is still a rather picky eater and my policy is that he has to taste 5 mouthfuls of anything I put in front of him. I will continue with that same food for days and days, each time insisting on five mouthfuls. When I can see that it is not grossing him out anymore, I'll up the ante and insisted on 10 mouthfuls and so on until he's eating hte food with relish.
