Guest guest
My local store that's 2 blocks away doesn't carry garbonzo(sp) beans or chickpeas. Is there a good supstitute for these as I've noticed they are in alot of different vegan recipes. They do carry and I bought a bag of each black beans, pinto beans, green split peas and lima beans. I don't believe anymore to have an allergy to gluten but still watch my intake of it. Either that or I just really like to make and eat my bread machine bread, lol. I searched vegan egg substitutions tonight and you'll never imagine the second ingredient for the 1 sites recipee " 2 egg whites " !? Are people really this ignorant? Is there something I don't know? Thank you all, hugs MichelleS
Guest guest
Lots of stores will bring in things that customers request. Failing that, any of the larger beans will probably work fine instead of garbanzos like pinto or kidney. Deborah My local store that's 2 blocks away doesn't carry garbonzo(sp) beans or chickpeas. Guest guest
Hi Michelle You should be able to sub any of those beans for chickpeas - you might just need to change the cooking times (up or down, depending on the bean!). Re egg subs, I think the egg white one is meant for people who're wanting to avoid the fat and cholesterol in the yolk. but yeah, it does sound crazy! My favourite egg replacement info for baking is at www.theppk.com/veganbaking.html Best wishes alice On 13/01/2009, at 11:10 PM, Michelle wrote: > My local store that's 2 blocks away doesn't carry garbonzo(sp) beans > or > chickpeas. Guest guest
I will use nave or pinto to sub chickpeas, but any bean will do. Just remember the taste of the bean and the recipe your using it in. Chickpeas are fairly mild so you'd want to use a mild bean unless you don't mind changing the flavor of the final meal. Who knows, you just might come up with something phenomenal! *Egg subs:* Ener-G egg replacer about 1/4 cup applesauce or mashed banana (very ripe) per egg jar of baby squash flax gel On Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 5:10 AM, Michelle <msteen wrote: > My local store that's 2 blocks away doesn't carry garbonzo(sp) beans or > chickpeas. Ener-G egg replacer about 1/4 cup applesauce or mashed banana (very ripe) per egg jar of baby squash flax gel This group is helping me so much! Thank you all!
