Guest guest
After two days of coughing, I took my two year old to the doctor and found he had pneumonia. They prescribed antibiotics and a cough medicine, but the cough medicine isn't covered by our insurance and the pharmacy didn't even have any. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to ease his coughing more " naturally " . I tried honey, a warm mist humidifier, hot steam from shower, and then warm water with lemon juice, but none have helped. The poor little guy has been coughing so much and until the antibiotics kick in I would love to give him some relief. Thanks so much!! Guest guest
One other thing doctors recommend is eucalyptus chest rub. It helped my infant son with bronchialitis some, although steam in the bathroom actually helped him a lot too. You can also ask your doctor if he or she recommends a nebulizer--my 2-year-old used one this past week and it helped (she has bacterial pneumonia). The nebulizer we bought cost about $22 and may be covered by your insurance--you also need to buy some kind of fluid to put in the nebulizer which your doctor would prescribe if he or she thinks it's advisable. You basically breath in the steam from the nebulizer for ten minutes or so (the difficult part may be trying to get your toddler to stay still that long!). Hope this helps, Jack ________________________________ itshotinjt04 <itshotinjt04 Fri, March 12, 2010 10:59:09 AM Pneumonia and relief After two days of coughing, I took my two year old to the doctor and found he had pneumonia. Guest guest
Elderberry and marshmellow root. You can probably get a tincture with a mixture at your local health food store. , " itshotinjt04 " <itshotinjt04 wrote: > >
Guest guest
If your little guy has pneumonia, I wouldn't mess around with trying natural cough remedies now. Can you call your doctor and see if there is something else he or she can prescribe or look for it at a different pharmacy? JMO. Guest guest
I use homeopathic remedies for my children especially with cough. It does depend on what kind of cough, but to bring mucus up probably antimonium tart or hepbar sulphur. I also use herbs, echinacea and astragulus are good immunity boosters, and astragulus helps relax the airways. There is a herbal tea Breathe easy by Traditional Medicine that also helped them. Licorice root is also a good expectorant. My two have been coughing all week, my pediatrician thought at first it was pneumonia, we got an x-ray and it came back negative, so she said it was probably a mild case of bronchitis. I hope this helps Kerri , " itshotinjt04 " <itshotinjt04 wrote: > > After two days of coughing, I took my two year old to the doctor and found he had pneumonia. Guest guest
I wish I knew what would help. I had this problem recently and the coughing was unbearable. I tried steam and honey. No help. What worked best were cough drops and rubbing my chest with Vick's VapoRub. I wouldn't use cough drops with a two year old though. I nearly inhaled them when coughing. Good luck with your little one.
