Guest guest
Has anyone ever tried to change or enhance the lunch menu? My family is not a vegan however we do not eat eggs, poultry, seafood or any other types of meat. The school states that they have a vegetarian menu - For example: yogurt that has gelatin in it or green beans cooked with beef stock. None of those options work for us. I wanted to know how I should approach the school/PTA. Open to any suggestions. thank you sejal ---
Guest guest
Hi- Your first job is to find out where the food comes from. If you're talking about a public school in a semi-decent sized district, the district is probably contracting out the food production or if it's really large, making it themselves in a plant. So the PTA/school, in my opinion, would be a moot point, as they have zero to do with the food on the menu. I think I would attack it from the Nutrition dep't. (or whatever it's called). Go right to the head; do not talk to any secretaries, etc. Ask to speak to the boss. If the district has a website, you can find out the person's name and much about the hierarchy. I would certainly present your case from a 'not vegetarian' standpoint; what they are claiming is 'vegetarian' is actually not, and they could be dealing with some real repercussions legally if they are claiming it is, and it makes someone sick. Don't be nervous to go right to the chief, so to speak. They are the people that actually make decisions and get things done. Good luck! j. ________________________________ sejal mody <sejalmody Fri, February 26, 2010 8:15:52 AM Petition to change the lunch menu  Has anyone ever tried to change or enhance the lunch menu? My family is not a vegan however we do not eat eggs, poultry, seafood or any other types of meat. The school states that they have a vegetarian menu - For example: yogurt that has gelatin in it or green beans cooked with beef stock. None of those options work for us. I wanted to know how I should approach the school/PTA. Open to any suggestions. thank you sejal ---
