Thank you all for your suggestions!!

 

I think I'm going with Martha Stewart's choice, and Isa's buttercream. I figure

if it's good enough for Martha, it's good enough for me! The only decision

still being considered is a layer of marzipan inside....

 

However, I'm saving all your suggestions for future experimentation!

 

Thanks Kim for your thoughts on the soap. I have been trying to get to

Michael's all week just to see if there are any options there, but I didn't make

it, and now there's no time. But I will look eventually---maybe for a future

party. Making soap balls is fun, easy, and messy; very kid-friendly. Maybe

I'll just do it for a play date if I can't do it economically on a party-scale.
