Guest guest
As a vegetarian teacher I am saddened by what my " colleague " has said. I experience this much less so at my school as I bring LOTS of vegetarian dishes to our potluck and then tell them AFTER they've eaten it. The attitudes of my fellow teachers has changed. I also have a no kill policy in my class - I stress that all livings things have a job and just because we don't like them doesn't mean they aren't beneficial to the environment. I'm proud to say they carry this on to their other classrooms. I know because other teachers have told me. My son is 1 and is being raised vegetarian (sorry wish I could go back to being vegan). I have taught his childcare workers that it doesn't matter what he wants I know what is best. They've said to me " he wants to eat what the other kids are eating " . I send " chicken nuggets " when they have chicken so he is getting close to what they receive. I have found that a less aggressive approach works with most people also having lived in the midwest and eaten lots of meat growing up helps me to identify with their perspective- however, I respectfully disagree. I feel that people listen to someone who is rational and caring. I am sorry that your child has gone through this but know that there are vegetarian teachers out there. I do not push my agenda on my students but if they ask I answer (they are in 6th grade). Best of luck and we can't " school " everyone but lead by example, Sheryl
