Guest guest
Does anyone know the correct amount of Vitamine D2 supplimentation for adults (41/female) and children (5/female, 16/male)? I'm finding conflicting information, not to mention the ever so popular " D3 vs. D2 " debate. Any help is greatly appreciated! Guest guest
Hi, Kimberly, It is difficult to give a specific amount because people also get Vitamin D from the sun. The most accurate measure is a blood test - then if you are deficient, you can supplement. Here's a link to Jack Norris, RD's page on Vit. D & calcium: http://www.veganhealth.org/articles/bones/ My family uses Dr. Fuhrman's Osteosun. He gives his recommendations for various ages here: http://www.drfuhrman.com/shop/VAdvisor.aspx Here is the fact sheet on the Osteosun so you can see how much is in each capsule: http://www.drfuhrman.com/shop/pdf_product_factsheets/DrFuhrmans_OsteoSun_factshe\ et.pdf I am not a sales rep for Dr. Fuhrman! I just appreciate his nutritional approach based on science. Hope that helps Jean
Guest guest
There is an on-going debate about whether or not vitamin D2 is absorbed as well as vitamin D3 with some studies showing that it is and some showing that it isn't. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all infants, children, and teens get 400 IU of vitamin D per day. For a 41-year old woman many experts would recommend vitamin D intakes of 800 IU per day or more. I'd suggest starting with this dose of vitamin D2 and having your vitamin D levels checked after a few months to make sure you are absorbing enough vitamin D2.
