Guest guest
My post to Heather on the Earthlings thread got me thinking about things. I'm sure we all look at other people's carts when we're out shopping, again leading by example with our own veg based shopping carts. Can you tell us what's in your cart each week? I'm reading a book by Dr. McDougall and I can tell you that we do not eat enough good quality starch, so I'm aiming now to get back to basics when I do my shopping and meal prep to ensure we all eat healthier. Maybe this thread will give me ideas for future shopping trips. Here is my list of basic items and additional items. My kids are still eating dairy and eggs, but eventually they wish to be vegan, too. Apples, mangoes, kiwi, bananas, berries in season, frozen fruit, pineapple, coconut. Seasonal vegetables, lettuce, tomatoes, greens (kale/collards/beet greens/spinach), carrots, sweet and yellow potatoes, Nuts - all kinds, nut butters Whole grain bagels, pitas, tortillas, quinoa, whole grain pasta, brown rice. Soy products - milk, smoothies, tofu, tvp. Additional items: Honey. maple Syrup, cane sugar Eggs Milk, yogurt, cheese. Frozen juice - calcium fortified orange juice, lemonade. I am not perfect so sometimes there are whole grain fig newtons, gingersnaps, popcorn, tortilla chips, etc. but these happen occasionally, not all the time. We're trying to eat whole foods as much as possible.
Guest guest
I am a huge fan of Dr. McDougall. There is actually a free meal plan and recipes on his website: http://www.pcrm.org/health/prevmed/building_bones.html This time of year, I probably spend as much at the farmers markets as as the grocery store. I did major shopping this week: strawberries, spinach, raspberries, grapefruit, frozen blueberries, yogurt, assorted cheeses, eggs, tofu, bread, quinoa, tortillas, naan, chickpeas, garlic, ginger, potatoes, onions, unburied treasure, apple cider, rice milk, sweet potatoes, peanut butter, cashews, olive oil, cumin, grape tomatoes, carrots, some cold cereal, pasta, triple ginger cookies from trader joes (these are for me, I will not share), chocolate chips, lettuce, carrots, purple broccoli, broccoli slaw, zucchini ________________________________ danishfaery <vibekevale Thursday, June 25, 2009 10:30:23 AM What's in your cart?
