Hi,

Okay, I'll give it a try! I did a search and they stock it in a

bunch of places less than a kilometre from me! I noticed the

veganaise the other day but the expirey was too soon given that I

have to use up the non-vegan stuff in my fridge first.

Thanks!

Hi Paula

It's great that your boys will drink the green smoothie. I was worried that my

daughter wouldn't like it. But, ever since (I've forgotten the name and I'm

sorry, I'm very bad with names - somebody) posted and left their blog post for

us to see, my 3 1/2 year old daughter and I have been making green smoothies

EVERY DAY. My husband drinks them too. We love them. But I know what you mean

about kids getting picky - my daughter has to eat most of an orange while we're

making the smoothie. It's become somewhat ritualized - I have to prep and clean

everything while she " makes the smoothie " by putting the stuff in the blender

pitcher, and turning it on and off under my direction. And eating oranges and

dripping the juice on the counter, the floor, down her chin, etc. So maybe he

is just upset to see all the fruit going in there, you could let him eat some by

hand while you make it maybe?

Another thing that helped us, and she talked about it on her blog was the color

of the smoothie. It seems kinda silly but when I put in red juice or fruits it

turned kind of mauve and wasn't as attractive. We use frozen mangoes and

bananas, almond milk, ice, flax oil, oranges and of course huge handfuls of

whatever greens we can find. Kale, spinach, (ok the mustard greens were pretty

bitter we probably won't do that again) etc. I just wash them, cut out any

harder stems, maybe shred them a bit to make it easier for my daughter and pop

them in. I'm interested in what others do though.

The whole process takes me like 1/2 hour or more. All that prep and cleanup!

It's worth it though, knowing I'm getting some greens into all of us and we are

loving the cold drink on these hot days. And it's a great bonding experience

(when I'm feeling patient that is!)

:-)

Re: A few questions

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I probably don't get enough fresh greens in

my diet these days. I seem to go in cycles...lots for a few weeks,

then none. So, your post re-inspired me and I bought some baby

spinach. I used it in the salad last night and a smoothie for the

boys and I this morning.

My question is...do you have to do anything (besides wash) to the

spinach before putting it in? I just added a handful. We couldn't

taste it but there were green flecks. Thank goodness my boys are

obsessed with the colour green and I could call them green sparkles

if they asked.

My youngest is incredibly odd when it comes to food. He gets mad if

I try to put banana or fresh peach in the smoothie because " it is

for eating!!! " Not drinking I guess. Of course, he says he hates it

while I make the smoothie but ends up asking for more.

Spinach, while high in iron does not have iron which is easily absorbed. I

would go for kale or other greens instead in your smoothies if iron is a

concern.

I tried Kale on Saturday and it was a hit...even DH drank it. When

the noticed the bits of green I said they were green sparkles that I

added since they both love (are obsessed with) the colour green.

They thought it was " cool " !!

I am going to try almond or rice milk next. Thanks for the tip. We

use soya milk but I'd like reduce some of our soy consumption.

We made baked potatoes last week for a meal. I found a great recipe for vegan

sour cream

that I made from tofu. I'd have to dig that up. So I had that out w/ chopped

green onions.

I also gave a choice of broccoli & soy cheddar cheese. Another option could be

veggie chili

and soy cheese. I'm sure there are some more creative options too, I look

forward to

hearing more ideas.

I have a few questions so thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this

and help a girl out.

1.)I am going to a cabin with my dad, partner and daughter for my birthday in

july. My dad said he will pay for the cabin if I bring the food. So I need

reciepies that are fairly easy because I am sure we will be doing a lot out

doors stuff. But they also need to be super good and not intimidating because

he is a meat and tatoes kind of guy. Don't get me wrong he eeats veggies but

not as much as we do.

2.) My daughters first birthday is coming up and we want to do a sesame street

picnic. I would love if you guys shared some great picnic food recipes with me.

It would also be great if they could be made in large batches since I think a

lot of family will be there.

3.) I want to know what the best veg friendly towns are. my partner daughter

and I are looking to relocate and want to check a few places out over the

summer. So any suggestions on where to look or where to stay away from would be

awsome.

4.) Anybody going to Summer Camp in Chilicothe IL later this month?

Thanks again for taking the time to read and respond.
