There are about 25 adults and many children present. This way I do not have to worry about my family getting their " turkey " . nor do I have to prepare one for them. I always volunteer to bring the salad and all the fixings for that. That way, I can be assured there is at least one or two menu items safe for me to eat. I think this year I may premake a stuffing recipe for myself as well since last year all that was safe was a salad and a dinner roll. Sure helps me watch my weight during the holidays though. *lol* The best part of this gathering is all are told ahead of time to prepare something to perform. This can be as simple as a poem, song, story, or just sharing something that meant alot to you this past year that you are indeed thankful for. After we dine, everyone gathers around a fire and one by one we share. This year my son will play his violin for them, I think my daughter is going to read a poem, and I am singing a duet with the host and my husband is playing guitar. There is one guest from Thailand, and she always does a traditional dance from her country. It is always a merry event and really helps to keep us from missing all of our family back east so badly since we never can manage to get back there during the holidays. I kind of want to try some different things, but the staples are just so good. Oh well, either way, it will be fun to figure it out.....I think. All of my family (except my Mom) live in Missouri and Arkansas, and I broke up with my girlfriend over a year ago. Hence, a Mom and son feast. I usually do most of the cooking while my Mom helps out. Yepper, I'm still trying to figure out whether to try one of those tofu turkeys or not. Perhaps some type of casserole will suffice. I know the day will sneek up on me again, and I will be doing last minute shopping and blah, blah, blah, the usual not being prepared for the Holidays, lol. She makes so much food that it's rediculous. There's only one or two dishes that have meat in them -- other than, of course for the turkey and ham that she fixes. She always has around 30 people for Thanksgiving. So, she always makes plenty and a big variety so that everyone's happy. " MatriXeno .
