Guest guest
*thank you for turning over the record* so, we left seattle on..*thinks*..i guess it was friday...our back seat loaded with goodies, CD's scattered beneath our feet, and waved a fond farewell to seattle got to hear more of carrie's crazy tales of her youth spent in that rainy little burg...we played song wars, we talked, we watched the terrain zip past... man, washington is a long state... we get to spokane, we go in search of a veggie place i had heard of, called mizuna...construction everywhere..we get bored, go look for some brewpubs..give that up, and head back to the freeway... entered idaho..they have pretty rest areas, and thats about all i can tell ya about that place..that, and i got carrie a jamba juice there.... its was pretty..but..it was getting dark(we hadn't left seattle til 2pm)..and my father's place in montana was several hours away still... at the border of idaho and montana was were all the animals decided to play chicken with our car..seems to happen at least once a trip...luckily, carrie avoided em all...even this one coyote that i'm not sure really was a coyote! it was HUGE!! much bigger then the lil scrappers around these parts...maybe it was a wolf?? whichever, it was big, and all of us were lucky it didn't go all tharn at us and stare at the approaching headlights of doom... montana was nice..but, carrie was still sick, and didn't want to push on...so we stopped in St Regis, at some overpriced hotel.... they even gave us a discount on the burger joint across the street ummm... thanx... i think *perplexed look* of course, we got the second to last room in the place, the other was a smokers room..we got the room they reserve for, now, no offense, older folks..big walk in shower, light switches about 3 ft off the ground,.. it was an ok room..and, woohoo, they even got 3 channels on the tv... best of all, the lounge chair was automatic! we looked at the phone book, i think it was 6 pages long, and say nuthin we could eat, unless we wanted to go graze on the lawn, so, we called it an early night next day, we head out, carrie still sick... Beautiful countryside though...up past little one dog towns(not big enough for a horse) like plains, paradise and hot springs..nice up thar..lotsa ospreys along the river, big osprey and eagle's nests along the flathead river and lake... finally got to my Dad's new place, outside of columbia falls(which, of course, has no falls...) and, ya just have to luv parents....my dear ol dad, who still asks me "so, you eat chicken? no, well, how about fish??"..that same guy, and my stepmother, had the fridge loaded with tofu, fresh fruit, soymilk... amazing, some things DO change! it was great to see my dad again. wander around his place..he has about 12 acres up against national forest land..we went all over, traveled up to Glacier National Park(ya would think, with a name like glacier, at least one of us would have brought a coat, but, nooooo!)..sad to say, almost no glaciers left up there, much reduced since my last visit...lotsa forest fire damage, but, still, spectacular... we went all over, found a place that served vegan stuff over in Kalispel (knead cafe), and the waitstaff was nice and KNOWLEDGEABLE...hit a few pubs and stuff, over in whitefish most importantly, carrie slept about 16 hrs each day, so, she rested up, and finally beat the sickness that had been doggin her fer the past several weeks.... saw lotsa deer, every morning the turkeys would come down into my father's driveway, talked, walked, just had a great time.. sadly..monday, we had to take a tearful leave of my old pop...i hope he doesn't decide to move again, montana is far enough out of the way fer us as it! hit missoula montana...and, the only vegan place in the state didn't open fer another hour..(tipu's)...so much fer that....saw the last colored hair we would see til we hit denver.... drove across big sky country..lotsa wildlife..stopped every once in awhile just so i could skip through a rest area..(well, and so carrie could use the little gurls room as well...), chased chipmunks, carrie got stalked by sneaky yellowjackets... a lot had changed since last i'd been across montana...a lot of "progress"..though, imo, its a lot of blandness... *fraggle rant* imo, too much of wot was distinct and neat about this land here is being lost under a sea of malls and mega box stores...everywhere we went, stretched unending legions of wal-marts, home depots, fast food emporiums...you couldn't tell one freeway onramp from the last... to me, i don't consider that progress *shrug* *hops off high horse* finally, we turned south, and followed the yellowstone river toward wyoming so ends part deux tune in next time, same fraggle time, same fraggle channel
