Feds slash proposed vernal pool habitat - The Bush administration has slashed the acreage proposed as critical habitat for California's vernal pool species. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Aug. 6 that it was recommending only 740,000 acres of the 1.7 million proposed acres be protected.
