Guest guest
Hello folks.... I'm a new kid on the block here and I'm so glad to be here because I need help and support. ) Let's see...I've been on a lacto-ovo veggie diet for a while now...no flesh and I do not wear animals either. ) Been wanting to cut out dairy and eggs for quite some time now and so this week I made the decision to adopt a vegan diet---YAY!!! .....it's been difficult though and I need to learn A LOT about veganism. I just finished reading "The Vegan Sourcebook" and that was excellent and very helpful. My two biggest obstacles right now is grocery/soaps, shampoos, toothpaste shopping, etc and finding food and products that are animal friendly and the second obstacle being that I live with my husband and three sons and all of them eat meat/dairy/eggs....now I respect their right to adopt this diet...I'm not trying to force my beliefs on anybody....but it can be a pain when it comes to shopping. UUGGGHH!!! Does anybody else have this problem and if so...how do you work thru it so that both sides are happy? I do try to introduce a lot of fruits, nuts, veggies, etc into my children's diet and I teach them about being kind to animals, etc....but my whole family and my inlaws, etc all eat meat so we are always surrounded by it. My diet is respected by my family though so I am grateful for that. I'm just really concerned with buying something that is not animal friendly and unfortunately with three kids...I really do not have the time to check every label and ingredient...sadly, I just do not have the time to be that stringent...although I am working on it....it's a gradual progress I am finding out and I believe that I am being way too hard on myself. { I almost converted back to my lacto-ovo diet but I really really REALLY want to embrace veganism so I am keepin' on. ) I realize that it is pretty much impossible to adopt a 100% pure vegan diet but I want to do all that I can and learn as much as possible. ) Anyway, I am open to ANY suggestions, tips, advice, feedback, etc. I would greatly appreciate it. On another note...I will be traveling to Europe next month...I am going with my good friend, her husband and her mother-in-law...we will be staying in London for five days, doing a day trip to Scotland...then going to Paris for 4 days. I am really excited as this will be my first time outside of the states and I am deeply interested in travel, different cultures, history, etc so this will be a lot of fun! ) I have a website (I crochet ) ...a very generic website but it's strictly for fun and creative purposes and it's free so you can't beat that. If you would like to check it out....my link is listed below. Thanks so much for listening and I am looking forward to chatting with all of you. ) ~ONE LOVE~ Leash O'Connor _____________________ ~The Crocheting Planet~ (www.CrochetingPlanet.freeservers.com)
Guest guest
Hi Leash Welcome to . First off, I've got to apologise... you sent an e-mail about vegan beers, etc. - because I hadn't got round to taking you off moderation, I had to let it through - and I was sure I'd hit the "approve" button, but the screen then said "message deleted". Anyway, at least I can redeem myself as I've still got the notification from with the full text - so I'll send that seperately. Sorry! > I'm just really concerned with buying something that is not animal friendly and > unfortunately with three kids...I really do not have the time to check every label and > ingredient...sadly, I just do not have the time to be that stringent...although I am > working on it....it's a gradual progress I am finding out and I believe that I am being > way too hard on myself. The main thing is to do what you can. Eventually you get into the habit, but it took me a couple of years - and I suspect I still make the odd mistake (although I try not to!) > On another note...I will be traveling to Europe next month...I am going with my good > friend, her husband and her mother-in-law...we will be staying in London for five > days, doing a day trip to Scotland...then going to Paris for 4 days. Guest guest
Hi Leash and WELCOME! Ask away and we'll be happy to help! As fer household items, I usually buy these at my local health food stores and always read the labels. If I do not recognize the ingredient, I look it up before purchasing.
