I as wondering, are there vitamins that it is hard for vegans to get? Should I be watching that or taking some kind of supplement?

B12 is about the only thing that vegans sometimes miss...

depends on who you talk to..some folks are all about the suppliments...me..i don't really think they are necessary as long as you aren't a junk food vegan..all about the balanced diet..

:)

B12 is added to a lot of products today, soy milks, grapenuts(!), juices, etc....

mayhaps a regular suppliment of b12 could be useful tho...

cheers

I got a rabbit yesterday! I wanted a pet and I chose a vegan. He is a broken Rex, he is really big and cute. I'm really excited. I'm trying to name him, I will probably name him Bilbo Baggins as I am in the process of turning my back yard into Hobbiton. My second choice was Frodo, or John Lennon the bunny.

I as wondering, are there vitamins that it is hard for vegans to get? Should I be watching that or taking some kind of supplement?

Vitamin B12 is the hardest because it occurs primarily in animal products.

You can easily buy products fortified with B12, just make sure it says

" cyanacobalamin " on the label. And there are vegan vitamins available.

Exposure to sunlight helps your body make Vitamin D, which--according to

" Being Vegetarian for Dummies " by Suzanne Havala--helps your body absorb

calcium. According to her book, 15 minutes' exposure a few times a week

helps your body through the winter months. If you have dark skin or live

above 40 degrees latitude north (or below 40 south, I assume), or in a

smoggy city, the sunlight may not be as effective.
